Seton ace claims state medal

ITHACA — Seton Catholic's Genna Hartung clipped 18 seconds off her previous best to finish sixth in the girls' 3,000 meters at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Cornell University.

It was the top performance by a Section VII athlete at the state meet, which has only one division. The outdoor championships are contested in large and small school divisions.

Hartung was timed in 10 minutes, 9.25 seconds. Her previous best indoors was a 10:27.87 at the Yale Invitational in January. Hartung's time Saturday also bettered her outdoor pr of 10:17 set at the 2007 state championships in Kingston.

The senior standout will be competing in the two-mile run at the Nike Indoor National Meet this weekend in Boston.

No other athletes placed, although Alexa Cosgro turned in a personal-best in the 1,000 of 3:21.17 and Anna Rabideau a personal-best of 5:12.31 in the 1,500.
