ELIZABETHTOWN — For the first time since the turn of the century, the Westport boys' basketball team finally got into the Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference championship game.
And a 57-45 victory over Schroon Lake Friday night finished the deal for the conference title.
Bo McKinley led the Eagles (11-0, 16-1) with 22 points, making four 3-pointers.
Nathan Gay and Curtis Meade also had big games for Westport, recording double-doubles. Gay scored 14 points with 12 rebounds, while Meade scored 10 with 14 rebounds.
However, it wasn't an easy win for the Eagles. Schroon Lake had a 22-18 lead at the half and a double-digit lead in the third before surrendering a 16-point deficit in the second half.
"The game was very close," Schroon Lake head coach Dana Shaughnessy said. "We had the lead at the half and were up by 10 later on, but they took it away in the last three and a half minutes."
12 of Gay's 14 points came after the break.
"We played more of our game in the second half," Westport head coach Brad Rascoe said. "Nathan (Gay) got into some foul trouble in the first half, but played very well in the second."
Ethan Tyrrell scored a game-high 25 points for the Wildcats (8-2, 13-7), tallying five 3-point scores. He also made five assists.
Taylor Gath tallied 11 points for Schroon Lake.
