Red Storm wins on ice

SARANAC LAKE — Drew Tedford tallied two goals as Saranac Lake stormed past Saranac 3-1 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys' hockey.

"We put in a solid perfomance today," Saranac Lake head coach Will Ellsworth said. "The big thing was our third line of freshmen that really stepped up and gave our first two lines a break.

"It was the best the third line has played all season."

Tedford put the Red Storm (11-9-3, 4-3-2) up 1-0 late in the first period with a goal with 13:24 gone with Brandon Patraw and Logan McDougall picking up the assist.

The Chiefs struck back late in the second period as Kevin Kurz scored with just 48 seconds remaining in the period with Shea Branon picking up the assist.

Tedford wasn't done as he scored the game winning goal with 13:25 gone in the third period. Patraw added a empty-net goal moments later with Nick McGrath picking up the assist.

Dana Tarentelli had 15 saves in the win and Aaron Tenbuuren had 22 stops in a losing effort.

MALONE 1

MALONE — Four different players found the back of the net as the Blue Devils beat the Huskies.

Malone and Ogdensburg skated to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first period.

The Blue Devils got on the board just over two minutes into the second period as Jarrid Dodd scored at 2:06. Erik Whittcombe made it 2-0 at 12:15 assisted by Tim Barr.

Barr tallied the next Ogdensburg just 1:45 into the third period assisted by Whittcombe and Matt Gardner. Gardner rounded out the Blue Devils scoring at 2:53 assisted by Whittcombe.

Malone finally got on the board 6:24 into the third period as Justin Simpson scored with Mike Studlack and Jared Marshall picking up the assist.

Chris Harper finished with 11 saves in net for Ogdensburg, and Chris Beebe finished with 35 saves for the Huskies (3-21-1).
