PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh High School isn't making its usual big splash in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys' swimming.
The Hornets lost to the Franklin Academy Huskies Friday for the first time and on Tuesday, had all they could do to withstand a serious challenge from AuSable Valley. The visiting Patriots led early and were within one point of the Hornets with four events to go, but PHS rallied to pull out an 87-82 triumph.
Larry Harney claimed four firsts and Josh West, three while Hamzah Qudsi and Brian Goodell came through with winning efforts late in the meet to seal the victory for PHS.
Qudsi and Mitch Kilkeary finished 1-2 in the 100-yard backstroke to extend Plattsburgh's three-point lead to nine and then Goodell and Ryan Bracy went 1-3 in the 100 breaststroke to give the Hornets an insurmountable 83-72 lead.
Adam Emery added two firsts in the relays for PHS (4-1-1).
Ben Ford won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events for AuSable Valley (1-3).
