CANTON — Franklin Academy of Malone beat arch-rival South Jefferson not once, but twice Friday night in Northern Athletic Conference indoor track & field at St. Lawrence University.
The Malone girls, turning in their best overall performance in several years, finished first with 119 points while South Jefferson was second with 95½ points in the 11-team field. The two teams tied at 99 on Jan. 9, in their first meeting of the season.
Not to be outdone, the Malone boys handed South Jefferson its first loss in two years, tallying 107½ to 101 for South Jeff.
"The girls had many late race-position changes that contributed to the big win," Malone Coach Bob Devins said. "Many of our younger runners had personal-best times to place sixth, seventh or eighth in their events and provide much of our team total."
Kaylie Lamica set three personal-bests and scored 20 points with stellar performances in the 55-meter hurdles, 1,500 and 3,000.
Danielle Dumas contributed 18 points with a personal-best in the 600, a first in the 1,600-meter relay and a place in the triple jump.
Christine Hanna also had a great meet with personal-bests in the 600, the 1,600 and 800 relays.
Lindsay LaPage ran a personal-best in the 3,200 relay and 3,000 in what was her best meet for Franklin Academy.
The Huskies won two relays with Ellen Studlack, Danielle Dumas, Christina Hanna and Jacqueline Whitman taking first in the 1,600 and Kylee Disotelle, Christina Hanna, Kaitlin Sexton and Jessica Farmer in the 800.
The Malone boys tied the school record in winning the 800-meter relay in 1:38.3 with a team of Justlin Marlow, Nick Hyde, Derek Hanna and Zach Leffler.
Josh Disotelle, Ian DuPuy, Austin Perry and Rourk Marlow all had personal-bests to win the 3,200 relay for Malone.
"It was a very good performance for the boys and the result of a total team effort," Malone Coach Matt Tessier said.
Justin Marlow, in addition to helping tie a school record, pulled off a double by winning the 55-meter hurdles and 1,000.
