Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

LoTemplio nets two as Eagles march on

BEEKMANTOWN — Beekmantown scored first in both the first and second periods Wednesday, and Lake Placid answered both times.

But when Sara LoTemplio found the back of the net 5:16 into the third, the Eagles followed with two more goals to pull away for a 5-2 win in the first round of the Upstate Girls High School Hockey League playoffs.

Beekmantown (15-0-2) advanced to play Albany Academy on Friday, with a berth in the final four on the line.

"In the third, I made a couple of player changes, and that seemed to work in our favor," Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said. "Sometimes a little change can make a big difference. The girls skated well and played hard. They never gave up.

"Our goalie, Christina (Emery) came up big in the third period."

Caitlyn LaPier tallied 11:35 into the third to give Beekmantown a two-goal cushion and then assisted on Lauren O'Connor's goal 35 seconds later.

LaPier and O'Connor both assisted on LoTemplio's go-ahead goal, which was her second of the game. Emily Raville also scored for the Eagles, and Jess Huber totaled two assists.

Lake Placid's Brooke Reid tied the game at 1-1 in the first period and made it 2-2 early in the second.

Beekmantown held a 47-20 advantage in shots, including 19-5 in the opening period. But Tanner Stanton made 42 saves for Lake Placid (3-6-3).

"We came out ready to play," Guay said. "Their goalie played extremely well. We just had to create traffic in front of the net and make things happen."

Emery had 18 saves for Beekmantown.

Section VII will host the final four Feb. 3 and 4 at the Plattsburgh State Field House.
