Clinton drops contest to Hudson Valley

TROY — Kalik Parker led five players in double figures Wednesday night to lead Hudson Valley Community College to a 76-64 victory over Clinton Community College in men's basketball.

Jacob Palmer added 15 points, Conor Maisch 14, Anthony Metzold 12 and Jeffrey Kruzinski 10 for the hosts.

Vince Carter tossed in 20 points for the Cougars, while Zach Basso added 19 points, Chris Miller 18 points and eight rebounds, and Sal Fabozzi six assists.

Hudson Valley held a 39-29 lead at the half.

"We played very well," Clinton C.C. head coach Kevin Daugherty said. "It was a 24-all game at one time in the first half. We did a good job on Parker and Maisch, their two big shooters, in the first half, but Palmer and Kruzinski hurt us with two 3-pointers each.

"They shot a very high percentage in the first half."

The hosts then opened it up in the second half before Clinton C.C. was able to battle its way back into the game.

"Turnovers hurt us early in the second half and we got down by 21 points," Daugherty said. "But, with six minutes to go, we had it down to eight.

"Our half-court defense was good and our guys showed a lot of heart in battling back. Hudson Valley is ranked fifth in the region and we made them work for it tonight."

The Cougars are at Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Saturday.
