BUFFALO — Plattsburgh State handed Buffalo State its first loss on home ice since Oct. 26.
Jared Docking, Andrew Smith and Dillan Fox, who skate on the same line, provided all of the Cardinals’ goals in a 3-2 win Friday in SUNY Athletic Conference men’s hockey.
“I thought the game wasn’t a 3-2 game. I thought we played really, really well,” Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said. “We did a great job keeping pucks down low and a great job cycling all night long.”
No. 9 Plattsburgh (14-5-1, 9-1-1 SUNYAC) visits Fredonia tonight.
The Bengals were 5-1-2 at the Buffalo State Sports Arena going into Friday’s game.
Smith gave the Cardinals a lead 10:25 into the first period, but it didn’t last long. Buffalo State’s Mac Balson tied it less than two minutes later. Then Docking tallied a power-play goal at 14:20 to put Plattsburgh back in front.
Fox made it 3-1 in the middle of the second period. The freshman forward also had an assist in the game, giving him four points over the last two contests.
The Cardinals kept the two-goal cushion until the 14:37 mark of the third, when Shane Avery notched an unassisted goal.
“It came off a turnover, but I thought the goalie had it tied up. It was a controversial goal,” Emery said. “But we found a way to win. Once it was 3-2, we played really smart with the puck and took control.”
Docking finished with three points for his fourth consecutive multi-point game. Mathieu Cadieux earned his 10th win of the season by stopping 24 shots.
Kevin Carr made 28 saves for the Bengals (9-10-2, 4-7-1).
“We only had three goals, but Carr is one of the better goalies in the league,” Emery said. “We generated a lot of offense. The only thing didn’t do well (Friday) was fill the net.”
Fredonia (6-13-2, 4-7-1) beat Potsdam 2-0 Friday.
