BEEKMANTOWN — Saranac placed four players in double figures and pulled away in the second half Wednesday for a 63-46 victory over Beekmantown in the Section VII Class B boys' basketball quarterfinals.
The fifth-seeded Chiefs will oppose No. 1 seed AuSable Valley in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Beekmantown.
Saranac and Beekmantown were tied, 27-all, at the half before the Chiefs went on a 21-9 run in the third quarter to take control of the game.
"We came out flat on both ends of the floor in the second half," Beekmantown coach Ryan Converse said. "We had poor shot selection.
"But credit Saranac for playing good defense. (Jeremy) Bullis and (Nick) Daniels, when he came off the bench, did a good job limiting Keegan's (Ryan) touches and keeping him off the boards."
Kasey Favreau led the Chiefs with 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field. Joe Tobin added 12 points and 14 rebounds, Connor Christopherson scored 11 and Bullis had 10 points and eight boards. Jake Liberty finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
"They had good balance," Converse said. "They outworked us, especially on the boards where they were able to get second and third opportunities. We didn't play the same style of basketball we had been playing."
Gregory Manney tossed in four 3-pointers and led the fourth-seeded Eagles with 14 points. Ryan was held to 10 points, while Zach Towle and Tyler Begor each had eight.
"I'm still proud of our kids," Converse said. "We won six in a row down the stretch to get to where we were at tonight."

PLATTSBURGH — The second-seeded Hornets shook off a slow start to pull away from the Red Storm.
Plattsburgh, which will face Northeastern Clinton in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday in Beekmantown, outscored Saranac Lake in every quarter and held a 26-17 lead at the half.
"Saranac Lake came ready to play and surprised us with their intensity," Plattsburgh coach Chris Hartmann said. "We were down for most of the first quarter.
"We played very well defensively the last part of the third quarter and early on in the fourth, and that enabled us to pull away."
Plattsburgh got balanced scoring, led by Ethan Votraw with 12 points, four steals and four assists. Rob Fout and Garrett Frady added eight points each, while Ab Maknani chipped in with seven.
Kellen Munn's nine points were high for the seventh-seeded Red Storm. Kevin Morgan and Ben Monty followed with six points apiece.
"As of late, we have been playing good defense," Hartmann said. "But we had a little letdown tonight. To make a run at the sectional title, we have to put four quarters of defense together."
