Post 1619 sets horseshoe tourney
WEST PLATTSBURGH — American Legion Post 1619 and Budweiser will hold their annual horseshoe tournament on Sunday. Sign-ups will be held from noon to 1 p.m.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three places, along with cash prizes, raffles and 50/50s. Everyone is welcome to enter. For more information, call 561-8706.
Bluff Point crowns junior golf champions
PLATTSBURGH — Three age group champions were crowned during the Bluff Point Golf Resort Junior Club Championships on Tuesday, July 31.
MaCullen Cope was the winner and low medalist for the 36-hole tournament in the ages 15 and over group. The runner-up was Nick Dodd, followed by Nic Favreau and Alec Odnoha, who were only one stroke behind.
In the ages 13 and 14 group, Jordan Guay was the winner with a 3-stroke margin over runner-up Gavin Plimpton. Guay shot a tournament record 34 on the front nine during the first day of the event.
In the ages 12 and under group, Mason Barber took first place and Jack Keating placed second.
A total of 15 golfers competed. A special award is given each year to a junior golfer who best exemplifies sportsmanship and hard work. This year’s recipient of the Gil Burnell Award is Nic Favreau.
PYH Golf Tourney set for Aug. 19
PLATTSBURGH — The Second-Annual Plattsburgh Youth Hockey (PYH) Golf Tournament will be Sunday, Aug. 19, at The Barracks Golf Course. There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and a BBQ to follow at the Moose Lodge. To register, contact Spencer Graves at 643-2202 or at ottawa6@charter.net.
ALS Golf Tournament winners listed
PORT KENT — Kevin Manchester and guests took first place and Gary Finney and guests second place in the ALS Golf Tournament held at Harmony Golf Club.
Skins were won by the Finney, Marty Snow and Russell teams. C. Dandrow had the longest drive for the men and Leanne Nixon for the women.
Saranac has fall sports coaching openings
SARANAC — Saranac Central School is seeking applications for the following fall coaching positions: boys’ modified and varsity soccer; and varsity football assistant.

Ticonderoga schedules fall sports clearance
TICONDEROGA — Physical exams for all Ticonderoga athletes for the 2012-13 school year were completed in June. However, many of those physical exams are incomplete as the student failed to return a signed Health History form before the physical. No student will be cleared to participate in tryouts without a completed Health History form, Health Update form and physical exam. If for any reason you did not have a physical exam in the spring, or if you have any other questions, contact Robert Sutphen, Athletic Director, at 585-7400, ext. 1159.
The Health History form and the Update form must be completed and turned in to the nurse for medical clearance at the dates and times specified below. The forms can be found on the Ticonderoga High School web page and are available in the main office of the high school. Practice schedules will be posted the day you turn in your forms. You will not be able to practice until these forms have been competed and the nurse has cleared you.
If you have any questions about pre-season practices, contact your head coach. Dates and times of medical clearance at the high school nurse’s office are: Friday, August 10 at 7 a.m. for football; Monday, August 13 at 7 a.m. for soccer and cross-country; and modified sports on Monday, August 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Middle School Nurse’s Office.
The school nurse will be available on Tuesday, August 21 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Middle School for anyone who did not show up on August 20 or did not have the proper paperwork.
NYSEF schedules summer benefit
LAKE PLACID — The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) is hosting the 28th-Annual Summer Benefit on Saturday, August 11 in the Turf & Field Club at the Lake Placid Horseshow Grounds. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Join NYSEF for a special evening to support local youth — step into the past with wooden skis and leather boots, traditional European cuisine, cocktails, music and silent auction.

AuSable Hall of Fame committee to meet on Monday
CLINTONVILLE — The AuSable Valley Hall of Fame committee will meet on Monday, August 6. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Middle School/High School in Clintonville. All interested are invited to attend.
Chazy accepting youth soccer registrations
CHAZY — Soccer registrations forms are still being accepted for the 2012 Chazy Youth Soccer fall season. Forms can be picked up/dropped off at the Chazy Town Hall.

Mehan memorial golf tourney Sept. 2
PORT KENT — The Brian Mehan Memorial Golf Tournament was established in 2007 to help raise money for Plattsburgh Senior High School’s Brian Mehan Scholarship. Mehan was a baseball standout at Plattsburgh State when he was diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2007. He passed away in March of 2008 and the scholarship in his name is given to one male and one female recipient annually who display a strong sense of team and love for athletics.
This year’s golf event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 at Harmony Golf Course. A contribution of an item or monetary donation of any size would be greatly appreciated and will directly support local students. Lumber Jills hosting bout Aug. 11
PLATTSBURGH— Plattsburgh Roller Derby’s North Country Lumber Jills will host the third home bout of the 2012 bouting season Saturday, Aug. 11, when they take on the Elm City Derby Damez of Keene, N. H. at the City of Plattsburgh Gym and Fitness Complex located at 52 US Oval.
Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m., with the first whistle at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 from your local derby girl or at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/262083. They’re also available at Body Art Tattoo (14 Margaret St.), the North Country Food Co-Op (25 Bridge St.), and Conroy’s Organics (8173 US Route 9 in West Chazy). Coaches First Aid Course starts Monday
PLATTSBURGH — The Coaches First Aid Course required by all high school coaches in New York State will be offered Aug. 6 to 9 at 6 p.m. at Plattsburgh Senior High School. Coaches are asked to enter the building at the breezeway near the cafeteria off of Angell Drive. This course will be taught by Mark Donnelly. No pre-registration is necessary. Anyone up for renewals must attend two of the four nights.
