SARANAC LAKE — Northeastern Clinton erased an early 1-0 deficit with two goals later in the first half and defeated Saranac Lake, 3-1, in Northern Soccer League girls’ soccer on Friday.
Sheila Decker gave the Red Storm the lead with 13:59 gone in the opening half before Mallory Honan scored on a direct kick at 20:03 and Celine Bouvier with another direct kick at 36:03 to put the Cougars in front.
Katie Matott added the final NCCS goal midway through the second half.
“All in all, this was one of the best games we’ve played all season,” said Saranac Lake coach Amanda Zullo. “Our defense found the line between smart and aggressive. Our offense continually sought to set up opportunities and the girls played with a lot of heart.
“NCCS is undefeated for a reason. They capitalized real well on the opportunities they had.”
