---- — ONEONTA — The Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team surrendered two goals in the first 9:22 of the game Saturday.
And, with the Cardinals having problems scoring goals, the early hole was too big to dig out of.
Melissa Guglielmo tallied two goals to lead Oneonta (9-3-1, 5-1) to a 3-0 victory in SUNY Athletic Conference play.
Guglielmo opened the scoring at the 6:19 mark with a shot inside the far post. Guglielmo then added her second goal at 9:22.
Erica Berry added the Red Dragons’ final goal with 21:53 gone in the second half with a header after two previous Oneonta shots deflected off the crossbar.
The Cardinals’ best scoring chance came with three minutes remaining in regulation when Jill Tardelli sent a shot off the crossbar.
Oneonta held a 19-7 shot advantage. Kelley Murphy (1) and Rori Stark (2) combined for the shutout with three saves. Danielle Schmitt stopped eight shots in net for the Cardinals (5-8, 1-4), who lost both games over the weekend on the road.
Plattsburgh returns home for two SUNYAC games this coming weekend, with Fredonia first up at 4 p.m. on Friday.
