MALONE — The Franklin Academy Huskies put on a good show for the homecoming crowd as they rolled to a 53-21 victory over the Massena Red Raiders in Northern Athletic Conference Football football Saturday.
Now 5-1, the Huskies travel to Gouverneur next week with the Section X Class B title on the line. The Wildcats lost their first game Friday night 38-6.
Franklin Academy again showed its ability to score quickly as six of its scoring drives took five plays or less to go along with another kickoff return for a touchdown.
Senior quarterback Mitch Gallagher had a monster game offensively as he completed 11-of-19 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
The longest Huskie drive came on the first possession of the game as they went 65 yards on 15 plays with Gallagher scoring from the 4-yard line.
A 65-yard kickoff return by JP Reagan gave the Red Raiders great field position, but they were unable to score as a 27-yard field goal attempt was no good. Four plays later, Gallagher found a wide open John Paul King over the middle for a 69-yard touchdown.
Massena scored first in the second. Reagan had a 51-yard run to bring the ball down to the Huskie eight and scored two plays later on a 6-yard run. Seconds later, Gallagher scored on a 65- yard run.
Franklin Academy scored twice more in the quarter with Gallagher throwing a 36-yard pass to Jordan Yando and a 3-yard pass to Harvey Smith
In the third quarter, the Huskies scored on their first play from scrimmage as Smith again showed his speed with a 63-yard run and then kicked the extra point for a 40-7 lead. On their next possession, Franklin Academy had to start on its 4-yard line as a penalty on a punt return wiped out a big gain. It still only took them five plays to score after a 52-yard run by Gallagher. Picaro took a pass from Gallagher and did some fancy running for a 20-yard touchdown.
Massena scored the next two touchdowns, a 5-yard run by Jeremy Malone and a 29-yard run by Reagan. Smith scored the last touchdown of the game on a 79-yard kickoff return.
The Red Raiders dropped to 2-4.
