---- — LAKE PLACID — Dustin Jacques netted a hat trick Saturday to help the Lake Placid boys' hockey team take second place in the Lake Placid Winter Carnival tournament.
The Blue Bombers (8-7-3, 5-4) defeated Shaker-Colonie, 4-2, after falling to CBA Friday.
"It was a great bounce back game after (Friday)," Lake Placid coach Keith Kane said. "...A good team effort."
Eddie Kane tallied two assists for Lake Placid, and teammate Nzoni Thompson added a helper of his own.
Jacques gave his team a 2-0 lead with a pair of scores in the first nine minutes of the second period.
Mike Mineau cut the Blue Bombers' lead to a goal later in the stanza.
Hunter Wilson gave Lake Placid another two-goal lead midway through the third period before Billy Carroll pulled Shaker-Colonie within one with just over a minute to go.
Jacques found the back of the net on an empty-netter with 32 seconds remaining to ice the victory over Lake Placid.

Beekmantown 5 Saranac 2
PLATTSBURGH — Frank Buksa had a big game on Senior Night as the Eagles (15-4, 9-0) skated past the Chiefs in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play.
Buksa finished with three goals, one on the powerplay, and one assist for Beekmantown.
"It was Senior Night and it was good to get a win," said Beekmantown coach Justin Frechette. "We have a great group of seniors who are a pleasure to coach."
The Chiefs scored first and last in the contest. Nate Haber opened the scoring at 3:17 of the first period and Matt McCasland tallied at 14:09 of the third.
But, it was all Beekmantown in between.
Cole Carter and Brenden Carnright also scored for the Eagles, with Buksa's second goal of the game, at 8:35 of the first, putting Beekmantown ahead at 2-1 to stay.
"It was our first real complete game," Saranac coach Ed Davis said. "We battled hard and never quit."
The Eagles held a commanding 52-14 advantage in shots on goal, with Kyle McCarthy and Allan Bray combining for 12 stops in net for Beekmantown.
Dustin Plumadore was busy in the Saranac nets with 47 saves.
"We played extremely well," said Frechette. "Even though we gave up the first goal of the game, we were able to come back and establish our cycle. We used our speed, won the one-on-one battles and put a lot of shots on net.
"But, give Saranac credit. They battled all game and Plumadore played very well for them."
The Eagles close out their CVAC season on Tuesday in Lake Placid.

Tournament champion Albany-CBA, following up on Friday's 8-0 win over Lake Placid, scored five goals in the third period to break it open in a win over the Red Storm.
Dave Wilgocki tallied twice, while Evan VanEpps, Zack Zwanteck and Chase Crawford added a goal each in the third. Three of the goals came on powerplays.
"We were missing some players because of the Winter Carnival," said Saranac Lake coach Will Ellsworth. "But, we held in there for two periods, trailing 3-1.
"But, they wore us out in the third. It was just one of those games."
Mike Dougherty gave CBA a 1-0 lead in the first period before Grant Strack answered for Saranac Lake with 5:02 gone in the second.
But, Dean McMahon's goal just 11 seconds after Strack's marker put CBA ahead to stay. Griffin Gualino then made it 3-1 midway through the second.
Blake Darrah recorded 25 saves in net for the Red Storm (13-4-2). CBA held a 33-17 shot advantage.
"We were happy with the split over the weekend," said Ellsworth. The Red Storm outlasted Shaker-Colonie, 6-5, on Friday night.
