PLATTSBURGH — Manhattanville is in the middle of a pretty busy weekend.

The Valiants rallied to beat ECAC East foe St. Anselm on Friday, and now they face the top-ranked team in Division III for a two-game series.

Plattsburgh State hosts Manhattanville in nonconference play this afternoon and Sunday. The Cardinals are holding a Stuff Stafford event during the second game.

The ninth-ranked Valiants (16-4-1) have won their last seven. They boast the most prolific offense in the country, averaging 5.57 goals per game, and they've lit the lamp 45 times during their winning streak.

Freshman Katie Little leads the way with 21 goals and 32 assists and ranks fourth nationally in points per game. Senior Monique Rafferty has a team-high 21 assists along with eight goals and is also in the top 10 nationally.

"They have a very young team but a very talented team," Plattsburgh State coach Kevin Houle said. "I know they're playing real well as a team as of late. And nothing to lose coming into our barn, so we have to be ready."

Sophia Kokkonis earned Friday's win to improve to 8-1-1 in net for the Valiants, while Emy Cote is 7-3.

Manhattanville, which lists 14 freshmen on its roster, leads the country in penalty killing with a 92.7-percent success rate.

The Cardinals (17-1-2), unbeaten in their last 12, are coming off a 1-1 tie with Middlebury on Wednesday. They were outshot in the first period but still took an early lead before the Panthers tied it in the second. Houle said they played very well at times but didn't always make good decisions.

"I think we've got to come out a little stronger," Houle said. "We gotta come out in that first period and really take the play to Manhattanville. But it will be a different style of play.

"We're looking forward to it. We just gotta play our game. Go hard, take the game to them, get pucks deep and play smart."

Plattsburgh State has won its last three meetings with Manhattanville, including the 2008 national championship game. The Valiants beat the Cardinals once earlier that season.

Stephanie Moberg leads Plattsburgh State with 31 points, putting her fifth in Division III scoring. Megan DiJulio has a team-high 18 goals, and Laurie Bowler, who scored on Wednesday, has 12.

The Cardinals will collect donations during Sunday's game to benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a camp in Vermont for children who have been affected by cancer. The Stuff Stafford event will also include give-aways.

Plattsburgh State's single-game attendance record is 1,736, set in 2005-06.
