NCCC players earn conference honors
SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community placed three players on the All-Mountain Valley Athletic Conference teams for men's and women's basketball. The All-Conference team recognizes the best players within the conference, which consists of 9 institutions from the New York area.
Among the honorees for the Saints are Clinton Foster and Tony Sparkman for the men, and Olga Garcia for the women.
Foster, a sophomore from Candor, was named to the Second Team as well as a Region III Honorable Mention. He averaged 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, and connected on 97 of 219 3-point attempts for an average of 44 percent. Foster became the Saints' all-time single-season record-holder with his 97 3-pointers during the 2009-2010 season.
"Simply put, Clint is the best shooter that I have coached," Coach Chad LaDue said. "Over half of his 3-point shots were from 25 feet or more. Clint was very important to our success this season. If you look at the games that we played, if he played well, we won most of those games. I only wish that I could have coached him for more than one year."
Sparkman, a Computer Graphics major from Lake Worth, Fla., was named to the Third Team and Honorable-Mention Region III. He averaged 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals per game, and shot 78 percent from the foul line.
"Tony has been a two-year starter and has represented our program and this college with great pride. In my 8 years, he has the fourth most points in his career. As good a player as Tony is, I will miss the person much more," LaDue added.
Garcia, a freshman guard from Miami, Fla., landed on the MVCC Second Team All-Conference.
"Olga Garcia was a big part of our basketball program this season, and will be an even bigger part next year," Coach Jerrad Dumont said. "Olga is not only one of the nicest girls on our team, but she is also one of the toughest people I have ever met.
"With our lack of size this season, Olga's toughness allowed her to defend in the post, while giving up anywhere from 6 to 10 inches."
She averaged 12.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2 steals per game.
