SARANAC — The Plattsburgh High School boys' basketball team wrapped up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Division I championship in dramatic fashion on Friday night.
Ethan Votraw's 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter was the margin of difference in the Hornets' 57-56 win over Saranac.
The Hornets improved their league record to 12-2 with one game remaining on the schedule.
"At the beginning of the season, we really weren't talked about much as a contender," PHS coach Chris Hartman said. "But the boys bought into what coach (Pat) Shaughnessy and I were trying to do. I couldn't be prouder of the boys."
The Chiefs had an opportunity to win it, but missed a shot and PHS rebounded with 0.6 seconds left.
"It was an intense atmosphere," Saranac coach Brent Denis said. "It was a good Friday night basketball game."
Votraw led the Hornets with a game-high 22 points, while Nate Harrington added 14.
"Votraw played a very solid game and Harrington did a nice job in the post," Denis said.
Jeremy Bullis paced Saranac with 16 points, while Ryan Kerner added 14 and Kasey Favreau nine.
"Kerner and Jordan Gillespie gave us a spark off the bench," Denis said.
PHS held a 29-24 lead at the half before Saranac cut it to 41-40 entering the fourth.
