Schroon Lake takes control of MVAC's North Division

SCHROON LAKE — Before the top two teams in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference faced off Friday night, a 20-point victory for either may have seemed far-fetched.

Post game it was a reality.

Schroon Lake failed to score fewer than 11 points in a quarter and held the Elizabethtown-Lewis to single digits in both the second and fourth quarters as the Wildcats pulled away for a 58-38 win.

Schroon Lake head coach Lee Silvernail said the game came down to the fourth quarter, in which his team was able to seal the win by scoring 12 points to the Lions' five.

"Holding them to five points was big," he said.

Jesse Shaughnessy led the way again, this time with 22 points on six field goals and two threes, 13 rebounds and six steals. Ian Williams followed suit with 17 points.

Silvernail said the team's defense was focused on shutting down Hunter Mowery, which showed on the stat sheet. Mowery, who averages nearly 24 points per game this season, notched just nine points.

Silvernail pointed to Bobby Rose and Noah Gath as his defensive standouts of the game.

Charles Huttig was the Lions' high scorer, tallying 11 points.
