CHATEAUGAY — With Chateaugay in the driver's seat in the Northern Athletic Conference boys' basketball standings, it needed a win over Madrid-Waddington Friday night to clinch first place in the East Division and a perfect 12-0 league record.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, who scored as many as 88 points in a game this season, three points too few was all it took to finish tied for first.
The Yellow Jackets squeaked by with a 46-44 victory to tie the Bulldogs with an 11-1 league record in the final game of the regular season.
"The game was very evenly matched," Chateaugay coach Ron Boyea said. "Two very good teams battled tonight, and they were the better team."
Both teams entered the second half tied at 22, and Madrid-Waddington took a three-point lead in the third quarter.
Alex Brock was the only Yellow Jacket to score in double figures. He finished with 15 points.
Michael Boyea tallied 20 points, seven rebounds and five assits for the bulldogs. Teammate Erik Fleury added 12 points and six rebounds.
