Three reach double figures in Clinton's victory

PLATTSBURGH — Katrina Garrand led three players in double figures with 20 points Thursday as the Clinton Community College women's basketball team recorded a 65-59 win over Hudson Valley Community College.

Garrand also added four assists, four steals and two blocked shots as the Cougars improved to 13-4 overall.

Emily Decker added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Clinton. Ruth Paul had 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Ashley Whitty chipped in seven boards.

Arianna Youngs paced the Vikings with 20 points, while Erica Houle added 19 and Tiana Lott 11.

The Cougars were up by as many as 15 points in the first half before Hudson Valley cut it to 30-25 at intermission.

"We knew going in that Houle and Youngs were their top shooters," Clinton assistant coach Allison Vosh said. "We held Houle in check in the first half, and Youngs carried them. Houle then stepped up in the second half.

"We did a great job locating their shooters, especially in the first half. We were also able to get out in transition."

The Cougars did a good job outrebounding the Vikings, who fell to 12-8 on the season.

"Decker, Whitty and Paul were outstanding in the post," Vosh said. "And Garrand and (Chelsey) Brooks controlled the floor game."

Vosh filled in for head coach Donna Dixon, who missed the game because of a family matter.

The Cougars hit the road for two games this weekend — Saturday at Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Sunday at SUNY Delhi.
