Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

Snowmobile rides at Winterfest cancelled

PLATTSBURGH — Due to a lack of snow, the Vintage Snowmobile Club of the Adirondacks will not be giving rides on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Winterfest.

The club will still have sleds on display. Any member is welcome to bring a sled. For more information, call Paul Sayah at 735-4718.

Curling to be held Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — The curling competition at the 2012 Winterfest at American Legion Post 1619 will be on Saturday. Instructions will be at 9 a.m., and curling starts at 10 a.m. The date was printed incorrectly in Thursday's paper.

Deerland Rabbit Derby this weekend

REDFORD — The 3rd-Annual Deerland Rabbit Derby will be held Saturday and Sunday. The event will be hosted by the Cedar Hollow Hunting Club on the Ore Bed Road. A spaghetti dinner will be served, with the cost being $10 for two dinners.

WILMINGTON — It's Super Football Sunday this Sunday, Feb. 5, presented by Bud Light, at Whiteface Mountain, where skiing and riding is just $35 for adults, $30 for teens and $25 for juniors.

While at Whiteface join in on the slope-style competition for a chance to win a pair of K2 Revival skis.

At the end of day, there's a tailgate party in the Cloudspin Lounge complete with Bud Light specials and live music with the Blind Owl Band.
