---- — LYON MOUNTAIN — For the first time since the beginning of the season, there's a new team on top of the Champlain Valley Baseball League standings.
The Meron's Expos rallied for a 7-5 win in the opener Saturday and then completed a sweep of the first-place Lyon Mountain Miners, 19-8. in Game 2 at the Big Ball Diamond.
The outcome left the Expos at 13-3 on the season and the Miners at 12-4, with two make-up doubleheaders remaining for both teams to finish off the regular season.
In the opener, the Miners took a 5-3 lead into the top of the seventh. But, Mike Bergman tied it with a two-run single and Nick Lamica rapped a two-run double to put Meron's in the lead for good.
Eight players had a hit each for the Expos, who took advantage of eight walks dished out by Lyon Mountain pitching. Tory Bouyea chipped in with a two-run single. Billy Davis went the distance for the pitching win.
Jerry Kowalowski led the Miners with three hits and two RBI, while Kris Chase, Justin Besaw and David Waldron all added two hits apiece.
In Game 2, the Miners held an 8-7 lead at one time before the Expos scored three runs in the fifth for a 10-8 advantage. Meron's then put it away with eight runs in the seventh.
Andy Gooch hit a grand slam in the seventh for the Expos and finished with two hits and seven RBI. Pat Shaughnessy added three hits, including a double and two-run homer.
Winning pitcher Lamica also finished with three hits, while Davis, Bergman and Brandon Cross chipped in with two each.
Kyle Kowalowski paced Lyon Mountain with three hits. Besaw, Tom Kowalowski, Jerry Kowalowski and Nick Chase all finished with two hits apiece.

PLATTSBURGH — Jeff Norton, Donny Coolidge and Frank Brogna hit home runs in a nine-run sixth inning as the Airborne Speedway/Hockey Plus Padres (10-6) completed a sweep of the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx at South Acres Field.
Both games were close for much of the way. The first game was tied at 1-all before the Padres tallied three runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good.
In the second contest, the Padres held a 4-3 advantage until the decisive sixth when Norton rapped a two-run homer, Coolidge a solo shot and Brogna, a grand slam.
Norton finished with a single, double and home run in the second game, while Coolidge and Brogna each added a single and home run. Pat Hoey added two hits and thee RBI in support of winning pitcher Joey Painter, who struck out six in five innings. Brogna struck out the side in pitching the sixth.
Five players had a hit each for the Timberjaxx, with Matt Lamora and Chris Maulding driving in runs.
In the opener, Chris Markwica rapped out two doubles and two singles to power the Padres, while Coolidge added two singles and a double and Mark Eggleston, a three-run homer.
Jordan Keysor scattered eight hits and fanned seven in going the route for the pitching win.
Jimmy Knight Jr., Anthony Harvey, Lamora and Mike Bennett led the Fourth Ward with two hits apiece, with Lamora driving in both of his team's runs.

PLATTSBURGH — Craig Bujold and Steve Burris each pitched five-inning shutouts for the Plattsburgh Cardinals (11-5) over the Fourth Ward A's at Lefty Wilson Field.
Bujold allowed four hits and struck out 10 in the first game, while Burris surrendered two hits and fanned seven in the second contest.
Bujold rapped out three hits and drove in three runs in the opener. Tom Neale and Zach LaPoint added two hits each, with LaPoint driving in two runs.
Zeke Perras and Nate Durkee both went three-for-three in Game 2, with Durkee clubbing a grand slam. Neale also had three hits, including a home run and two RBI.
The Cardinals' Hector Duquette pinch-hit a single in both games and drove in a run.
Steve Livsey went two-for-two to account for two of the four A's hits in the opener. Randy Brown had a double and Livsey a single in the second game.
