SARANAC — The defending playoff champion Lyon Mountain Miners picked up where they left off last season by opening the Champlain Valley Baseball League season with an 8-1 and 12-4 sweep of the Airborne Speedway/Hockey Plus Padres Sunday.
Kyle Kowalowski rapped out three doubles in the opener, while Nick Chase drove in three runs. Dave Waldron went four innings for the pitching win.
Eric Bell accounted for two of the Padres' four hits and drove in the lone Airborne/Hockey Plus run.
In Game 2, Waldron, Nick Chase and Kris Chase led Lyon Mountain with three hits each, while Joel Siskavich added two. Scott Baker hit a home run in support of winning pitcher Cody Weaver.
Matt Rivers had a single, double, triple and three RBI for the Padres and Jeff Norton added two hits.

Cardinals 6, Expos 4 Cardinals 11, Expos 9
PLATTSBURGH — Tom Neale got the pitching win in Game 1, Craig Bujold in Game 2 and Steve Burris the save in both games as the Plattsburgh Cardinals took two from the Meron's Expos.
Frank Buksa Jr. and Matt Duquette led the Cardinals in the opener with two hits each, with Buksa hitting a home run.
In the nightcap, Zach LaPoint rapped out three hits, while Nate Durkee, Dustin Currier and Zeke Perras added two each, with Durkee crushing a two-run homer.
Jared Jarvis rapped a three-run homer in Game 1 for the Expos, while Billy Davis added two hits and Nick Lamica, a triple.
In the second contest, Dahlin and Jarvis led Meron's with three hits each, with Dahlin belting a three-run homer. Mark Passino chipped in with two hits.

Timberjaxx 6, A's 1 A's 9, Timberjaxx 2
PLATTSBURGH — Andrew Stanley struck out seven and tossed a three-hitter in the second game to give the Fourth Ward A's their split with the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx.
Reilly Lawless went three-for-three for the A's, while Mike Howard and Randy Brown added two hits apiece.
D.J. Barber had two of the three Timberjaxx hits, with one being a double.
In Game 1, Tim Lafave rapped out two hits, including a solo homer, to lead the Timberjaxx to their victory.
Matt Lamora picked up the pitching win as the Timberjaxx, leading 2-1 after five, scored four runs in the sixth.
Steve Livsey accounted for two of three hits for the A's.
