Tysen, Murray, Keysor tops at time trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Bob Tysen recorded the fastest time in the Aug 8. 10-mile bicycle time trial, and Lynne Murray topped the women’s category. Murray’s daughter, Shannan Keysor, was the fastest rider in the five-mile event. Twenty-four riders competed under perfect conditions.

The time trials are free and open to novice and experienced riders. Sign up after 5:30 pm on Wednesday evenings at the Point au Roche firehouse. The first riders start at 6 p.m.

Bluff Point to host senior championships

PLATTSBURGH — Bluff Point Golf Resort will host its 15th annual Senior Golf Championship at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23. Entry forms are available at the pro shop or at bluffpoint.com and entry deadline is August 20.

 

Team Carpenter takes Make-A-Wish tourney win

PLATTSBURGH — The team of Steve, Carol, Jody and Scott Carpenter took first place at the 15th annual Naked Turtle/Make-A-Wish Golf Tournament held July 18 at Bluff Point Golf Resort. The team also won one of the skins prizes. The team of Justin St. Louis, Josh McMillan, Matt Dion and Matt Liberty took second. Sam Trombley, Heidi Wilkins, Josh Whitehouse and Ritchie Pravodo were third.

Drowne takes final Fun Run

CADYVILLE — Jeremy Drowne easily took the top spot at the final Heart Smart Fun Run 5K of 2012, besting second-place Evan Page by nearly three minutes.

Drowne covered the course at the Cadyville Recreation Park in 16 minutes, 38 seconds. Page finished in 19:19, and Todd Etters crossed the line in 19:27 for third place.

Edann Brady-Etters was the top female finisher, crossing the line in 20:07.

The event boasted more than 175 runners, 62 of whom ran in the one-mile event. Alex Marciniak was the top male finisher (7:12), and Lydia Pearl was the top female (8:51).

Eamon Graves won the half-mile in 3:42. Kade Sellars topped the quarter-mile field with a 2:10 time.

Co-ed volleyball league starts in September

CHAMPLAIN — The Champlain Co-ed 6-on-6 indoor volleyball league will begin in Sept. at Northeastern Clinton Central School. Matches will be played on Wednesday nights. Teams may participate with less than six players but must have a minimum of two women on the court at all times. The format will be rally scoring. Teams must be signed up by Aug. 24. Carey cards hole-in-one

PORT KENT — John Carey scored his first hole-in-one at Harmony Golf Course on Aug. 6. He used a 7-iron on the 111-yard 10th hole. The shot was witnessed by Terry Forkey, Gail Forkey and Suzanne Carey.

 

Mixed doubles tennis tourney Aug. 17-18

PLATTSBURG — The North Country Tennis Association will hold its annual Mixed Doubles Tournament Aug. 17 and 18 at the Plattsburgh High School courts. There will be one division of mixed open available. A consolation round will be held for first-round losers, guaranteeing every team at least two matches.

Free kayak trip Aug. 21

PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh Parks & Recreation Department will offer a free kayak trip to all Town of Plattsburgh active adults and seniors from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21. We will start in Saranac at Picketts Corners Park at 5 p.m. and travel 6.3 miles down the river to the Cadyville Beach. The trip will take approximately three hours. All equipment will be provided to those who need it, and those with their own equipment are welcome to join this leisurely paddle.

All participants must pre-register by stopping by or calling the Town of Plattsburgh Parks & Recreation Department at 151 Banker Rd. or 562-6860. Space is limited, so register today.
