PERU — Austin Medeiros had two run-scoring singles and the Adams Glass Senior Babe Ruth team edged out a 3-2 victory over Plattsburgh on Wednesday.
Medeiros tied the game at 1-all with a RBI single in the third.
Then in the fifth, the hosts took a 3-1 lead when Conor Casey led off the inning with a single, Austin House got aboard on a force play, Ryan McCall reached on an infield hit with a throwing error allowing House to score, and Medeiros delivered a RBI single.
Plattsburgh opened the scoring with a run in the second when Jordan Gillespie tripled and scored on Kristian Sherman’s 2-out RBI single.
Plattsburgh then made it interesting in the seventh when Jonas Miller led off with a double, Alex Maston singled him in and Durgan Zappala bunted Maston to second. However, Luis Pepen Matos got the final two batters to end the threat.
“We continued to get good pitching and, with timely hitting, we are winning the close ones,” said coach John Demarais.
Casey struck out eight and allowed four hits in going the first five innings for the pitching win. Pepen Matos fanned two and allowed two hits in pitching the final two innings for the save.
Losing pitcher Brady Burleigh went the distance for the loss as he struck out four, walked two and surrendered seven hits.
Medeiros and Tristan Archambault led Adams Glass (10-10-2) with two hits each, while Nick Uliva, Casey and McCall added one each.
Kyle Erickson, Burleigh, Gillespie, Miller, Maston and Sherman rapped a hit each for Plattsburgh.
Adams Glass plays the Vermont Outlaws today at 5:30 p.m. at Rice High School, while Plattsburgh is at the Beekmantown junior varsity field for a doubleheader against the Ogdensburg Maples on Saturday.
