Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

10 YEARS AGO (2000)
Steve Marsh (125 pounds), Chris Trombley (130) and Steve Gero (275) win titles as NAC repeats as champions of the Barry Livermore Wrestling Tournament.

Amber Goppert nets 21 points as Malone beats Westport 61-42. Dorothy Albright tallies 21 for the Eagles.

Katie Castine becomes the third woman in Plattsburgh State history to score 1,000 points in basketball.

PHS avenges an earlier loss to Saranac in a standing-room-only showdown. Joel Butchino scores 16 to lead the Hornets to the 49-47 win. Steve Yaeger leads the Chiefs with 11.

Nate Bilow scores 49 points in Chateaugay's 93-70 victory over Salmon River.

Tim Follos nets 29 points and pulls down 21 rebounds as Lake Placid tops Crown Point in overtime 78-73.



Matt Devins scores 33 points for Chazy in a 74-72 victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis.

Trevor Stanton's hat trick lifts Lake Placid to a 5-4 over tourney host Malone in the final.

Lisa Brelia nails a short jumper in the waning seconds to give Plattsburgh State a 54-53 win over Potsdam State. Margot Lynch leads the Cardinals with 18.

Mike Coolidge scores 29 points as AuSable Valley edges Saranac 69-65. Mark Kiroy nets 22 for the Chiefs.

Tammy Breyette and Kathleen McGrath lead Seton Catholic to a 3-2 upset of Peru in volleyball.

Missy Cook scores 19 points in Moriah's 56-47 win over Peru.

Jeremy Dubay scores 29 points to go with 22 rebounds in Seton Catholic's 71-66 win over AuSable Valley.



25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Linda Ryan scores 24 points against Fairleigh Dickinson to go over 1,000 points for her career at Siena.

Mark Trudeau tallies 27 points as unbeaten Ticonderoga outscores Saranac 28-5 in the third period on its way to a 62-45 win.

Mike Derrick leads the West Point cross-country ski team to first in a 5-team meet in Lake Placid.

Keith Sullivan gets 4 goals and 3 assists to lead Plattsburgh High to a 9-6 win over Saranac Lake.

Trina Patenaude scores 12 points and grabs 11 rebounds as Northeastern Clinton nips Ticonderoga 42-41. Tina Peeters leads the Sentinels with 16.



30 YEARS AGO (1980)
Brent Rushlaw and Joe Tyler qualify as the top American two-man bobsled team for the Olympics.

Al Hassler is named a goal judge for eight Olympic men's hockey games.

Sophomore Larry Moskowitz comes off the bench to record 10 points and 5 steals in the second half, rallying unbeaten PHS to a 68-67 win over MAI. Jeff Law scores 31 for the Mounties.

Former Westport standout Ed Schmidt is averaging 27 points a game for Phillips Exeter Academy.

James Johnston (157 pounds) and Robert Mesick (169) record key wins as Northern Adirondack upsets Saranac 30-22 in wrestling.

40 YEARS AGO (1970)
Jody Barber of Cumberland Head wins 3 classes in snowmobile races at the Clinton County Fairgrounds.

Roger Dutton scores 23 points and Mark Benoit adds 17 as MAI atones for a 30-point loss to St. John's earlier in the season with a 60-50 win over the Irish. Johnny Hart leads St. John's with 14.

Maurice Broderick, who ran Airborne Speedway from 1956-68, takes control again for the 1970 season when Canadians Ronald Bracken and Rodney Anderson default on their payment.

Mike Davidson scores 21 points as Peru defeats Winooski 66-53 to avenge an earlier setback.

50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Skyline Ski Center in Redford begins night skiing. It is one of three Clinton County ski centers; Beartown and Polar Valley between Redford and Saranac are the others.

Heavyweight Paul Savage scores a technical knockout over Moose Gregory in the featured bout at the Vermont Golden Gloves tournament. Buddy DeCarlo of the Plattsburgh Boys Club wins at 160 pounds.

Joe Velsini scores 16 points to lead Port Henry past AuSable Forks 47-44.

Bob Dragoon fires in 47 points as the Mooers Merchants drub Plattsburgh 88-45.

Fred Rescigno gets 32 points and 25 rebounds in leading MAI over St. John's 70-45.



60 YEARS AGO (1950)
Urgil Votraw scores 19 points, Jim Sears adds 18 and Dick Squires, 10, as St. John's hands Lyon Mountain its first loss, 52-43.

Former PHS standout Bobby Parker is named captain of the basketball team at Mount Hermon Prep.

Jack Pepper scores 18 and Howard, 12, as Moriah beats Diamond Match 55-46 on the new OLVA court.

Earl Wells scores 18 points to lead the PHS alumni to a 58-49 win over the St. John's graduates. Jim Holcombe scores 16 and Jim Brannigan, 15, for the Irish alums.

70 YEARS AGO (1940)
Ray Gallant's shot from halfcourt gives St. John's a 26-24 win over St. Mary's of Ogdensburg.

Francis Steltzer scores 19 points to lead PHS over MAI 35-25.

The Republic Steel team from Lyon Mountain with Bill Linney, John Kerr, Bill Stacavitch and Angus Clain wins the 4-man AAU bobsled trophy. Francis Tyler's team comes in second, followed by Nelson Diefendorf's sled.

More than 100 skiers use the Plattsburgh Ski Club's Rand Hill Slope. Lloyd Wilcox offers a talk on ski equipment.
