PYH peewees win Tupper tourney
TUPPER LAKE — The Plattsburgh Youth Hockey peewees defeated the Louisville Lightning 4-3 Sunday to win the Tupper Lake Hockey Tournament.
Tanner Morrow scored the lone shootout goal and Dean Dashnaw was outstanding in net all weekend for PYH.
The PYH skaters went 2-1 in round-robin play, with wins over Malone and Tupper Lake. They dropped a 4-1 decision to Louisville.
Team members included Dean Dashnaw, Liam Chaskey, Dylan Baker, Gabe Chamberlain, Taylor Pepper, Tanner Morrow, Hayden Reidy, Alex Zurlo, Chase Stonehouse, Jake Hammond, Jeffrey Latinville, Jordon Mattot, Kyle Murphy and Kevin Dandrow. Coaches are Jamie Reidy, Rob Dandrow and Jeff Latinville.
Winterfest to include curling
WEST PLATTSBURGH — Winterfest 2010, sponsored by American Legion Post 1619 and Monster Energy Drink, will include curling competition on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Elementary hoop tourney has openings
CHAMPLAIN — The Ninth-Annual Presidents' Challenge Elementary Basketball Tournament will be held Feb. 12-14 at St. Mary's Academy with room for three more teams. The tournament is for fifth- and sixth-grade boys teams and will include a hot shot contest.
Entry fee is $75 per team with the tourney format pool play followed by single elimination. Each team is guaranteed three games. Registration will close Feb. 2.

Champlain K of C salutes shoot champs
CHAMPLAIN — Five girls and four boys, ages 10-14, were crowned champions of the 2010 Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Championship, held Sunday at St. Mary's Academy. Fr. Francis X. Chagnon Council #3525 in Champlain sponsored the local competition.
The winners are: Girls- Lilly Hayes (age 10), Bailey Pepper (11), Rachel Pombrio (12), Sarah Babbie (13), and Abbie Miller (14). Boys- Dylan Grenon (10), Gavin Landole (11), Jacob Brown (12), and Zachery Houglin (13).
Gavin Landole also won the district level competition and will move on to compete in the regional level on March 6 in Massena.
Spring football league meeting Thursday
MALONE — The Upstate New York Spring Football League will meet Thursday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. at the Malone YMCA to discus plans for the July 3-4 International All-Star Weekend. The agenda will include discussion on budgeting for the different events, field location and regulations, golf tournament format & ideas, sub committees for different event responsibilities.

Spring football sets mandatory meeting
MALONE — The Upstate New York Spring Football League will hold a mandatory meeting for all players and coaches Sunday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Malone YMCA.
League officials will go over players' requirements for the season and International All-Star Weekend. Also, what is included in the player's registration fee, for the season and all-star event that concludes the season.
Coaches will discuss their expectations and when practices will begin as well as offensive and defensive formats for the upcoming season. All players in the League Policy are required to attend team meetings, practices, fundraisers and games to qualify for the International All-Star Weekend. This will be the start of being in compliance with the policy.

PLATTSBURGH — Men's soccer is the latest intercollegiate sport at SUNY Plattsburgh to join the Cardinal sports family of blogs, debuting this week. The blog, maintained mostly by the coaching staff, is aimed to give followers a closer connection to the Cardinal men's soccer program. AuSable to host B'town in boys' hoops
CLINTONVILLE — AuSable Valley will host Beekmantown at 6 p.m. Wednesday in varsity boys' basketball. It will be a non-league game, filling the spot vacated by Northern Adirondack.
Rouses Point ice-fishing derby Feb. 13-14
ROUSES POINT — The Rouses Point Sportsmen's Club will hold its 17th-Annual Ice Fishing Derby Feb. 13-14 with fishing hours midnight Friday through 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The boundary lines are New York from the mouth of the Great Chazy River north to the Canadian border and in Vermont, Kelly Bay north to the Canadian border.
Weigh station hours at the Rouses Point Sportsmen's Club will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
Entry fees are $15 and can be purchased at The Last Resort, Lake Champlain Fish Company, and Cornerstone Drug.
Prizes for northern pike will be $350 for first, $150 for second and $100, third. The biggest pickerel will be worth $50.
A fish fry and chowder will follow the closing of the weigh station on Sunday, depending on fish donations from derby entrants, free of charge for club members and paid derby participants. There will be a $5 per person contribution for non-members.
