---- — PLATTSBURGH — It was just like old times for the rival Lyon Mountain Miners and Plattsburgh Cardinals at Lefty Wilson Field Sunday.
The first-place Miners pushed across a run in the top of the 10th inning to record a 7-6 win in Game 1 before the Cardinals posted an 11-6 victory in Game 2 to end up with a split on the long day in Champlain Valley Baseball League action.
In the first game, David Waldron and Nick Chase each had two singles and a home run for the Miners, who are now 12-2. Kyle Kowalowski, Scott Baker, Joel Siskavich and Justin Besaw had two hits apiece, with Chase getting the win in relief.
Nate Durkee paced the Cardinals (9-5) with four hits, while Steve Burris and Tom Jebb each added a single and double.
The Miners scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.
But, Plattsburgh forced extra innings in the bottom of the inning when Burris doubled, Jebb singled and Bujold was hit by a pitch, setting up a two-run single by Durkee, with the tying run coming across on an ensuing error.
It stayed 6-all until the top of the 10th when the Miners won it. Besaw singled, Waldron sacrificed, Nick Chase was hit by a pitch, Kyle Kowalowski walked and Baker hit a sacrifice fly.
In Game 2, the Cardinals broke a 3-all tie with four runs in the third to take the lead for good.
Jebb, Bujold, Durkee and Russ Holland, with a three-run shot, all homered for the Cardinals. Jebb, Durkee and Holland all finished with two hits each in support of winning pitcher Gary Duquette, who went the first six innings.
Baker rapped two home runs for the Miners, while Nick Chase also homered. Waldron contributed two hits.
It was a long day at the field for Bujold, in particular, who pitched nine innings in the opener and caught the entire second game.
Expos 14, T'jaxx 2 (5) Expos 6, T'jaxx 4
PLATTSBURGH — The Meron's Expos (11-3) moved to within one game of first place with their sweep of the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx, setting up this coming Saturday's showdown in Lyon Mountain.
Billy Davis struck out five in going the five innings for the win in Game 1. Nick Lamica and Tory Bouyea rapped out three hits each for Meron's, with Bouyea getting a pair of two-run homers and Lamica a home run and four RBI.
Mark Passino added two doubles, and both Brandon Cross and Justin Mahan a single and double for the Expos, who scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Jacques DeMars went three-for-three for the Timberjaxx and James McIntosh added a single and double.
The second game was much more competitive, with Jessie Collins going the distance to pick up his first-ever pitching victory in the CVBL. Davis swung the big bat for Meron's, going four-for-four, with a homer and three RBI.
The Expos erased a 3-2 deficit with two runs in the second inning to take the lead for good.
Jim Knight Jr. led the Fourth Ward with a three-run homer and double, while DeMars added a single and double.
Padres 10, A's 0 (5) Padres 11, A's 1 (5)
SARANAC — Jordan Keysor and Matt Rivers combined to allow just four hits in 10 innings as the Airborne Speedway/Hockey Plus Padres (8-6) took two from the Fourth Ward A's.
Keysor struck out eight, walked one and surrendered three hits in the opener, while Rivers fanned four, did not walk anyone and allowed one hit in Game 2.
Shane Perrotte, Cory Trombly and Donny Coolidge led the Padres with two hits apiece in Game 1, with Perrotte getting two doubles and Trombly, one.
In the second game, Perrotte paced the way with two doubles and a single, while Jeff Norton added two singles and a double. Chris Markwica finished with a two-run homer and double and Eric Bell had two singles.
Jared Hammond rapped a double for one of the three A's hits in the first game and accounted for the Fourth Ward's lone hit in Game 2 with another double.
