10 YEARS AGO (2001)

Danielle Gushlaw scores 14 points and grabs nine rebounds while Erin Pangborn chips in with 12 points and four assists in Saranac's 56-55 upset of Northeastern Clinton. Jess Poirier leads the Cougars with 11 points.

Trevor Waite's goal at 11:30 of the third lifts Plattsburgh High to a 2-1 win over Seton Catholic. Ian Stanton also scores for the Hornets while James Reardon gets the Knights' goal.

Chris Robert scores three times and Malone rallies from a three-goal deficit to stun Norwood-Norfolk 4-3.

Mike Barcomb pours in 32 points in Chazy's 75-57 win over Crown Point. Damien Nevader chips in with 19 while John Hayes leads Crown Point with 21 and Tom Walters adds 20.

Mike Fernandez burns the nets for 30 to lead Moriah to a 71-66 victory over Seton Catholic. Mark Rabideau scores 20 and Ian Luck, 18, for the Knights.

Pat Bedore shows the way with 19 points as Tupper Lake knocks off AuSable Valley 74-62. Ryan Cavallero chips in with 16. Nathan Straight leads AuSable Valley with 17.

20 YEARS AGO (1991)

Lake Placid's Duncan Kennedy captures the first men's luge gold medal for the United States in World Cup competition in Latvia.

Orande King, Chris Cavosie and Brian Kochanowicz are clutch over the last four minutes as Plattsburgh State beats Potsdam State to end a 31-game, 15-year losing streak in the men's basketball series. Eugene Snell scores 13 points and Todd Wright, 10, in the Cardinals' 70-60 victory.

Jamy Begor ties the game at 10:33 of the third period and Scott Favreau nets the game-winner 56 seconds into overtime, giving Northeastern Clinton a 4-3 win over Plattsburgh High.

Erich LaBelle scores 11 points and Malone overcomes the loss of Toby Lane to a broken arm in the third quarter in a 47-42 win over Chateaugay in the final of the Bobcat Shootout. Tim Barnewall leads the Bulldogs with 28 points.

25 YEARS AGO (1986)

John Bruce, Joe Dauphinais and Rodney Trudeau win by fall to lead Northern Adirondack to a 32-23 season-opening win over Massena.

T.J. Cornwright scores 19 points and Donna Dixon nets 18 to spark Plattsburgh State to a 76-64 triumph over Potsdam State.

Eighth-grader Cy Ellsworth scores with 42 seconds to play, lifting Saranac Lake to a 3-2 win over Malone in hockey.

Saranac striker Lori Lamora and Chazy sweeper Sara Gonyo are named to the first all-state team in girls' soccer.

Kevin Burke drops in 16 points and Mike O'Connor chips in with 14 as Chateaugay overcomes the loss of Webby McHardy (back injury) to defeat Chazy 48-34. Blair Villemaire scores 10 for the Eagles.

Tom Neale scores 17 points, Harry Reed adds 16 and Mark Haubner, 10, to lead Plattsburgh High past Malone 68-53 in Steve Tolosky's coaching debut at PHS.

30 YEARS AGO (1981)

John Amell leads St. John's with 18 points while Eric Fuller and Mike Kasprzak each contribute 16 in a 70-61 victory over Salmon River. Bartlett leads the Shamrocks with 22.

Troy Revette pumps in 31 points and Mark Revette adds 16 to lead Saranac over Moriah 78-65. Paul Lemza paces the Vikings with 23 points.

The New York Rangers call up Rick Strack from their AHL farm team in Springfield, Mass. to serve as backup goaltender to Steve Weeks in Colorado.

Tim Sparks scores 23 points and Anthony Sampson, 18, to spur Peru to a 68-55 victory over Massena.

Todd Dupell tallies 17 points as Beekmantown knocks off Norwood-Norfolk 62-41.

Jim Anctil nets 30 points to lead Northeastern Clinton to a 52-44 overtime win over Proctor, Vt.

Jimmy Guay scores twice and adds two assists to lead St. John's to a 4-2 hockey win over Alexandria Bay.

40 YEARS AGO (1971)

Pete Gath scores 22 points and grabs 20 rebounds while Gailen Pereau adds 18 points in Schroon Lake's 64-59 upset of defending MVL champ Westport. Barry Morrison leads the Eagles with 20 points.

Tim Strong scores 20 points to lead Elizabethtown-Lewis to an 82-56 win over Crown Point. Glenn Lang leads the Panthers with 26.

Jim Chilton hits for 20 points and Jeff Benjamin adds 15 in leading Northern Adirondack to a 77-66 victory over Ticonderoga. Frank Hughes scores 24 points for the Sentinels and Bruce McCaughin chips in with 18.

Bill Rock, Warner McMillan, Mike Darrah, Jim Facteau, Randy Drollette and Jim Rocque all register pins as Saranac defeats host Mt. Mansfield (Vt.) Union High School 44-17 in its wrestling opener.

Bob Juneau drops in 20 points and Beaver Castine chips in with 18 to lead the Riley Ford Comets to a 59-38 triumph over Alburg, Vt.

50 YEARS AGO (1961)

Fran Wilkins scores 17 points to pace Plattsburgh High to a 63-51 triumph over Ticonderoga. Dick Liddell leads Ti with 17.

Rick Frisbie and Charles Novak each score 11 points in Westport's 51-35 win over Willsboro. John Kiehl nets 13 for Willsboro.

Fran Arthur fires in 25 points and Al Geppert contributes 21 as the Port Henry Hawks down the Schroon Lake Firemen 84-57. John Hall leads the Firemen with 14.

Larry French hits for 25 points and Doug Ross adds 20 in Crown Point's 65-60 victory over Mineville. Ralph Paden scores 21 and Bob Mitchell, 17, for the Red Flame.

Jack Hooper tallies 19 points to spark Elizabethtown to a 62-49 win over Moriah. Ed Tilger's 16 points lead Moriah.

60 YEARS AGO (1951)

Wayne Benson hits for 15 points to lead Plattsburgh High to a 57-45 victory over Chateaugay. Little Johnny Humiston nets 13 for Chateaugay.

Earl Wells tallies 16 points to lead Champlain College to a 59-53 triumph over Potsdam State Teachers College. Fred Chase scores 19 for the Bears.

Jim Sears leads the way with 22 points and Bob Garrow chips in with 15 to spark Plattsburgh State Teachers College to a 73-53 rout of Curry College.

Norm Votraw tosses in 16 points and W. Macy adds 12 to pace St. John's to a 52-40 win over Rouses Point. Roth and Lefevre each score nine for Rouses Point.

70 YEARS AGO (1941)

J. Tolosky scores 23 points and Mike Ryan, 14, to lead Dannemora past Moriah 53-29. Baker tallies 11 for Moriah.

Reynolds nets 14 points and Brean, 11, in Altona's 45-15 win over Champlain. Craig scores nine for Champlain.

Maurice Demarais hits for 15 and Dick Boucher adds 14 to spark Holy Ghost Academy to a 45-30 triumph over St. John's. Tony Livingston and Harry Carpenter each score seven for St. John's.
