Rouses Point Frostbite Run Feb. 14
ROUSES POINT — The Northern Lights Track Club, in conjunction with the Rouses Point Fire Department, will host the return of the Rouses Point 5k Frostbite Run Sunday, Feb. 14. Race-day registration will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m. with the race to begin at noon. Location will be the Rouses Point fire station, 49 Lake St.

Pre-registration entry fee is $10 and race-day fee, $15. Pre-registration deadline is Feb. 12th. The first 50 registered runners will receive an embroidered fleece beanie for winter running. Registration includes post race refreshments.

Outdoor Club to meet on Tuesday
WEST CHAZY — The Champlain Valley Outdoor Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the West Chazy Grange Hall. All members are urged to attend. New members are welcome.

Hoop officials blow whistle on cancer
PLATTSBURGH — IAABO Board 43 Boys basketball officials and Northern Adirondack Girls basketball officials have purchased colored whistles in support of the national "Blow the Whistle on Cancer" program, with all the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Officials will us white whistles for boys games, and pink whistles for girls games, from Jan. 25-Feb. 6, to demonstrate their support for this worthwhile cause.

Officials from both boards have also donated hundreds of dollars from games officiated during the Holiday Hoopfest in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. These donations will be sent directly to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at the CVPH Medical Center.

Howard rolls first-ever 300 game
PLATTSBURGH — Jeremy Howard, bowling in the Weekenders Mixed League at North Bowl Lanes, tossed the first-ever 300 game of his bowling career, and finished the evening with a 206-300-214-720 series.

North Bowl Singles Shootout Feb. 21
PLATTSBURGH — The final North Bowl Singles Shootout of the season will be held Sunday, Feb. 21. Qualifying shifts will be at 12:30 and 2:45 p.m. All bowlers must sign in 15 minutes prior to the shift or call and reserve a spot 30 minutes prior to the start of the shift. NCCS girls win JV basketball contest
SARANAC LAKE — Northeastern Clinton won the girls' junior varsity game against Saranac Lake Thursday by a 38-26 score. It was incorrectly reported to the Press-Republican that the host school had won.

Ski Mountaineering Camp next weekend
KEENE — With snow falling in the High Peaks, ski conditions figure to be perfect for The Mountaineer's two-day Ski Mountaineering Camp Feb. 5-7.

The camp is designed for experienced backcountry skiers looking to increase their comfort level skiing and climbing steeper "mountaineering" terrain. It will be led by Alpine Guides International owner Mark Puleio and Dynafit rep Mike Kaz.

The Eighth-Annual Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival will take place March 6-7. For more information, visit the above Web site.

ADK chapter lists outings open to public
PLATTSBURGH — The Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) invites the public to take part in two outings scheduled for next week.

On Wednesday, the public is invited to the Wednesday Walk About Town. Meet at 3 p.m. on the steps of City Hall for a walk around a Plattsburgh neighborhood. Lynn Valenti is the leader.

On Friday, the public is invited to join the chapter for a cross-country ski trip to Mount St. Bruno in Quebec. There are more that 35 km of groomed trails for skiing or snowshoeing for all abilities. There is a café or bring your own lunch. Call for details. Speed Channel to air final from Placid
LAKE PLACID — Officials of the Lucas Oil Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen Engineering and Speed Channel have announced that coverage of the event, held in Lake Placid Jan. 8-10, will continue on the network Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. ET.

The program will feature two hours of original content recorded during the fifth annual event, which raises awareness and money for the development of sled technology for the United States men's and women's bobsled teams.

Celebrate Miracle of Placid Olympics
LAKE PLACID — Thirty years ago, the U.S. hockey team stunned the world winning gold and Eric Heiden captured five Olympic speedskating gold medals, making the 1980 Olympic Winter Games one of the most memorable events in all of sports history.

While the Olympic Winter Games will take place in February, in Vancouver, sports fans can re-live that magical moment of 30 years ago, or create their own Olympic memories when Lake Placid celebrates the 30th anniversary of the XIII Olympic Winter Games.

During Lake Placid's 30th anniversary celebration, Feb. 12-28, families and visitors will have the opportunity to visit and compete on the same venues that were used during the 1980 winter games. Families will have the opportunity to 'compete' against one another in the inaugural Gold Medal Games Family Edition which will feature a torch run, opening ceremonies and events including alpine skiing/snowboarding, biathlon target shooting, bobsled, curling, hockey skills, speedskating for medals and awards.

The 1980 torch will be re-lit on Saturday, Feb. 13. On Sunday, Feb. 14, visitors can embrace the greatest moment in American sports history with an opportunity to watch Disney's "Miracle" in the 1980 Olympic arena, the same arena where the U.S. Olympic hockey team stunned the former-Soviet Union before beating Finland on their way to the gold medal. The movie, starring Kurt Russell as the legendary U.S. team coach Herb Brooks, begins at 8:30 p.m., preceded by the debut of "Small Town, Big Dreams," at 7 p.m.

Other Olympic themed movies will be shown throughout the two-week celebration in the Olympic Museum.

Additional activities include a viewing of the NHL's Stanley Cup, also in the Olympic Museum, Sunday, Feb. 14, toboggan races, fireworks and family style celebrations on Mirror Lake.
