BUFFALO STATE — After breezing to a 10-0 win Friday, Plattsburgh State won a tight one Saturday.

Buffalo State was within a goal most of the game, but Plattsburgh State held the Bengals at bay for a 2-0 victory and a weekend sweep. The Cardinals are 8-0-1 in their last nine — Division III's longest current unbeaten streak.

Stephanie Moberg had a goal and an assist for four points in two games. Brittany Meade scored the insurance goal while killing a penalty in the third period.

Plattsburgh State had a 36-14 advantage in shots, and Alyssa Koniar made 34 saves for the Bengals.

"Their goalie definitely played well," Plattsburgh State coach Kevin Houle said. "The first period we played extremely well and only had one goal. So we certainly could've come out of that period with three or four.

"But (Friday) the puck went in, and (Saturday) it didn't. So we had to battle. It was definitely a tense game because they were one shot away from tying it up."

Amherst is the only other team that has held Plattsburgh State under three goals this season.

But while the Cardinals (15-1-1, 12-0-1 ECAC West) didn't put many pucks in, Houle said they didn't give up many scoring chances either.

They outshot the Bengals, 12-1, in the first, and the only shot that beat Koniar was Moberg's one-timer out front. Jordan Caldwell and Erica Pomponio assisted.

The score stayed 1-0 until Buffalo State turned the puck over at the blue line, giving Plattsburgh State a 2-on-1. Meade took a pass from Moberg and put it five-hole at 11:12 for the Cardinals' second shorthanded goal of the season.

The Bengals had given the Cardinals a scare before that.

"They almost tied it up right before we got the shorty," Houle said. "It went off the far post and we were able to clear it. But it was pretty close."

Buffalo State (8-10-1, 5-7-1) had four power plays in the third period and put eight shots on net with the man-advantage.

The Cardinals killed six penalties Saturday, making them 8-for-8 on the weekend.

In her fourth start of the season, Anne Loewen earned her second shutout with 14 saves.

"She did a good job," Houle said. "She stopped the shots she had to stop, and she didn't panic under the pressure of a one-goal game."
