Laura Chapot wins Friday Feature in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Laura Chapot of Neshanic Station, NJ rode Umberto to victory in the Hollow Brook Wealth Management 1.45m Power and Speed Stake Friday at the 35th annual I Love New York Horse Show, presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.

Chapot was one of seven entries to advance to the speed section of the course by riding without penalty over the seven-jump power portion at the North Elba Showgrounds. She then completed the eight-jump speed section fault-free, finishing in 40.336 seconds to take the win.

Finishing second was Michael Dorman of Wellington, FL who finished the speed section clean in 44.188 seconds on Booccaccio with third place going to Amy Millar of Canada who had the only other clean ride over the speed section and a time of 44.219 seconds on Ferraro K.

Chapot also took top honors in the 1.40m Lake Placid Lodge Speed Class on Bradberry. Other winners on Friday included Hillary Simpson on Arkansas in the 1.35m Jamaica Tent Power and Speed Stake and Callie Smith on Upstaire in the Deeridge Farms High Amateur-Owner Jumper Class.

The 35th annual I Love New York Horse Show runs through Sunday, July 8 and is highlighted by the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC., on Saturday, July 7. Following the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, the Richard and Diana Feldman Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Excellence is awarded to the rider who has won the most combined prize money in the $75,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix during the Lake Placid Horse Show and the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix during the I Love New York Horse Show.

On Saturday, the I Love New York Horse Show hosts its 20th Annual Doggie Costume Contest. All people with leashed dogs in costume will be admitted to the horse show free of charge. Contestants take center stage at 12:00 noon in a special ring set up near the horse show’s Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field. Everyone is invited to participate, whether part of the horse show or not. The whole town is welcome!

The contest’s sponsors, The Brown Dog Café & Wine Bar, the Foster Family, A Placid Life/Jake Placid Doghouse and Animal Planet, will present awards, including the Lulu Perpetual Trophy for the funniest costume, to this year’s “top dogs.” There is no entry fee, and all canine entrants go home with a special event treat bag.
