PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Senior Mariners have been struggling a bit on the pitcher’s mound lately.
On Tuesday, the pitchers came through in a big way.
Jake Richards and Brandon Rabideau combined to throw a no-hitter against the Montreal Rockies as the Mariners captured a 15-0 victory at Lefty Wilson Field.
“The two young guns, they knew it was time to start pitching good,” Clinton County coach John Flynn said. “They have had a few bumps in the road, but they showed that they wanted to keep pitching.
“My hat’s off to them. We need pitching and they stepped up.”
Richards captured the victory for the Mariners (15-6), pitching five innings and striking out six. Rabideau struck out three over the final two innings.
The two pitchers, though, had a lot of help from their offense.
Joe Tolosky went 4-for-4 in the game with a double and two RBI. Ben Weightman had a 2-for-2 day with five RBI. Richards, Brian Latulipe and C.J. Worley each added a pair of singles.
“We hit the ball really well,” Flynn said. “We have been hitting well lately. It hasn’t really been our hitting that has been the problem. We have been hitting well for two weeks.”
Ben Godbout suffered the loss for the Rockies, allowing four runs in two innings pitched. John Fenchak went the rest of the way for Montreal.
Clinton County is back at it today with a 9:30 a.m. doubleheader at Lefty Wilson against Norfolk Post 925.
