BOSTON, Mass. — Stefanie Braun was the top finisher among a small group of the Plattsburgh State women's track and field team who competed at the Valentine Invitational Friday on the campus of Boston University.
Braun finished 14th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:23.40. Kelley Driscoll and Julia Warren also competed in the same event, finishing 26th and 27th, respectively.
Joanne TeRiele ran to a 23rd-place finish in the 500-meter dash in 1:20.04. Amy McCasland placed 25th in the 800-meter run while Colleen Coon was 48th in the 3,000-meter run.
The weight throw was the only field event to include representatives of the Plattsburgh squad.
Jackie Boyea finished 32nd with an 11.88-meter throw. Amanda Gadway was right behind Boyea in 33rd with an 11.84-meter toss. Ashley Gadway's 11.61-meter throw was good for 35th place.
Mercer leads men
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team sent numerous athletes to the Valentine Invitational at Boston University and to the MIT Coed Invitational over the weekend.
At the Valentine Invitational, Kevin Mercer was the top finisher in track events. Mercer finished 23rd in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.96. Jason Pageau finished close behind in 1:07.21 to take 25th.
Mercer and Pageau teamed up with Ben Depo and Nate Williams, running to a 36th-place finish in the 4x400 relay. The team finished the event in 3:27.30.
In the 5,000-meter run, Ryan Millar crossed the finish line in 15:06.63 for 41st place.
Plattsburgh had five top 50 finishers in field events at the Valentine Invitational. In the long jump, Ryan Barcomb finished 22nd, ahead of Alex Choi who came in 31st.
Anthony Russo competed in the shot and weight throw, finishing 23rd and 31st, respectively. Ian Zink also competed in the shot put, placing 27th with an 11.84-meter throw.
Five Cardinals ran in the 5,000-meter run at the MIT Coed Invitational, dominating the small field of 10 for the event.
Josh Mitchell won the event with a time of 15:19.30. Adam Shearer (3rd), Chris Martin (5th), Mike Schram (7th) and James Biondi (9th) followed behind Mitchell.
The Plattsburgh State men's and women's teams will travel to Cornell University next weekend for the Marc Deneault Invitational. The trip to Cornell will mark the last meet for Plattsburgh before the postseason.
