CLINTONVILLE — Plattsburgh High School not only repeated as the Section VII/X boys' swimming champion, but also broke a record in the process.

The Hornets captured the sectional title with 416 points Saturday, followed by AuSable Valley (284), Franklin Academy (227) and Beekmantown (32).

Plattsburgh had five first-place finishes while the Patriots had four and the Eagles, two.

First-place finishers in the individual and relay races qualified for the NYSPHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships March 2 and 3 in Buffalo.

The Plattsburgh 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nick Prenoveau, Mike Torner, Matt Evans and Nate Leopard finished in a time of 1 minute, 34.39 seconds, breaking the Section VII and school record of 1:34.62. The performance also broke the AuSable Valley pool record.

Evans had a solid all-around day. He won the 50 freestyle (22.92) and 100 freestyle (53.16) and helped win the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.98) along with Leopard, Josh Labounty and Spencer Hall.

Torner also finished with a pair of victories for the Hornets, picking up a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:51.48) with Austin Spooner, Nathan Emery and Robbie Hartman.

The Patriots were led by Ben Ford and Hank McCormick, who came away with two wins apiece. Ford grabbed first in the 500 freestyle (5:20.64) and 100 backstroke (1:02.67). McCormick touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.55) and the 200 freestyle (1:59.90).

Dan McGovern, the lone swimmer for Beekmantown, had two first-place finishes on the day. McGovern swam the 100 butterfly in 57.37 and the 200 individual medley in 2:11.87.
