Role models

The No.1 rule of dressing for success is to look at the person whose job you would like to have. Then dress like that person. Hopefully, there are role models out there.

Beeping

To the person on Cumberland Head who beeps at all hours of the day and night: Shame on you! Every time you beep, my house and family go into an uproar. My kids are woken up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. It's disrespectful. Think about others before you hold the horn down. It may be amusing to you and your friends but it's not to me. Many people agree with me.

School Ties

Dear Editor, I am very saddened to find out that Jerome V. McGovern's column bi-monthly "School Ties" is no longer being published. Why? McGovern's, interesting, creative and factual reporting not only was great reading, but his honesty gave me pleasure and confidence that his opinion and experience towards education re-form and growth is much needed in this troubled world. Who, but the youth who will one day in the near future will be facing a very diverse and even more complicated worldwide society, to make peace, grow economic stability, but mostly, allow their youth to feel safe.

Egging

To the people on Cumberland Head that think it's funny to egg peoples houses/cars: It's extremely rude, disrespectful and illegal. My car has been egged and damaged. Other people have spoken to me about it and their front doors were also egged. This is no doubt a teenage prank, and I want to let you know I am watching very carefully now.

Bullies

The bullying starts in most cases in elementary school and follows the kids through to intermediate and then high school. I've seen it first-hand and I lived it first-hand when I attended Peru School. The administration, however, at least made more of an effort to stop it than the one we currently have. I simply can not stomach that "Everyone is our Friend" attitude when behind those blind eyes little girls are beating on little girls and boys are taunting boys and those monitors are a total joke as they discipline the victim not the assaulter, twice.

Waste

How many terrorists has the checkpoint in Schroon Lake caught? All it is is running up their pensions and nothing else. Just another example of how the government wastes money. Just think, we borrow half of the money to run this fleecing of America

Gordie

I read Gordie Little every Sunday, but please put him back on the back page where he belongs. He totally messed up my crossword puzzle folding pattern being on page C2. Have a great day and please, drive carefully.

Zero tolerance

Bullying is a real problem in Peru. I do not know why school administration chooses to pretend it isn't as bad as it is. The problem is many of the "bullies" are popular and good at sports so it would be detrimental to the school to lose them to suspension, instead it is overlooked and the "good 'ol' boy" club (which includes both boys and girls) stands strong. Why not have a policy that is for everyone. Zero tolerance to bullying ... plain and simple. No matter who you are or what your name is.

Thanks

I would like to say thank you to the young man who owns the garage on the Military Turnpike. My car was overheating and I pulled in to the the garage for help. Even though he was closed he helped me without any questions asked. I explained I was trying to get to a very sick friend and had no money. He just smiled and said have a great day. Thank you again, sir; you are an angel.

Rules

From time to time the Press-Republican prints rules for submissions to Speakout and Letters to the editor. Why do these same rules not apply to the editorial cartoons the P-R publishes? Vile nastiness directed toward specific individuals should not be allowed as free speech in the editorial cartoons (as published on Aug 20).

Prices

Beware when eating out at your independent mom and/or pop restaurants, they'll commonly show you an item on the menu as being one price, and then when the bill comes through the computer printout will have it hiked up 50 cents or a dollar more. It pays to keep note of the cost of items when you buy them, especially at those establishments where the menu doesn't sit at the table so you can double check your slip after the bill's arrived. They'll blame it on the computer.
