Speakout: Sept. 2, 2010

Hawaii

These islands of ours are going astray. As they float farther and farther away from the American continent and the American way. I say we re-annex Hawaii just like when Commodore Perry opened trade with the islands. We need to take back Hawaii, from America, for America.

Unicorns

I don't understand Unicorns. Grammatical error much? An animal with one horn, if one isn't creative enough to give it a different name, should at least be called "Unihorn."

Park

Has anyone been to the George Deno Rec Park in West Chazy? I was there with my children today for the first time since I was a child. The tennis courts are in very poor shape. Let's hope while you're playing you don't trip on the cracks. The bathrooms have no sinks, the toilets are filthy dirty and in the women's room was an empty case of Bush beer cans. This is a disgrace to the people of West Chazy. Please fix it up so we have a place to bring our kids.

Flights

Why can't Plattsburgh get an airline to fly to any connecting airport other than Boston? I fly once or twice a month to Nashville for business. If I fly from Plattsburgh it takes two connections minimum and more than $500. I'm forced to fly from Burlington and its at least $150 (with US AIR) cheaper and it's done with only one connection that saves me 2.5 hours. What is the Plattsburgh doing wrong? Why can't we get a airline to go to any connecting airport other than Boston? So much for free parking.

Opinion

As Newsweek became a liberal opinion magazine, subscriptions dwindled, causing the magazine to become smaller, causing further loss of readership. The Press-Republican continues to publish articles by columnist Lyons who tries to pass his liberal opinion off as news. If P-R wanted to publish liberal opinions they could have bought the entire Newsweek organization for less than the price of one issue. Dropping Lyons would allow more room for Speakout so local liberals and conservatives can offer much more interesting reading.

Offenders

Peru does not need a motel or hotel. We get enough traffic from the seasonal campers and skiing visitors to the area without bringing in vagrants that may stay here longer than wanted or needed. And some of those potential tenants could be those that are on the sex offender registry and don't register that they've relocated. It happens all the time everywhere, just read the news or call New York State Office of Sex Offender Registry and ask if they've made busts due to non-reporting people being in motels and hotels. We don't need any here.

CVPH

Why won't the press print any remarks about CVPH? I have tried to post how bad everything is at the hospital. Now it's cold food.
