Climate report
TO THE EDITOR: The data are now in. Big surprise! July 2012
was the hottest month ever in the 117-year record of weather data for the lower 48 states, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
And yes, it beat the ‘Dust Bowl’ record for July 1936.
This and other data supporting climate change, extreme weather and global warming was reported in a study by J. Hansen and colleagues at the Goddard Institute of Space Studies.
The paper was peer reviewed and appeared in the recent issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
What is it that we do not understand?
The greenhouse gases and climate response times to it are slow and long.
It has been stated that decisions that we make — or don’t make — today will have an impact for a thousand years.
That amounts to 40 generations. What will our grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc., say about us?
I do not think it will be flattering.

Campaign platform
TO THE EDITOR: It’s unbelievable what this country has become when a political leader’s campaign platform is based on contraceptives, abortion, amnesty, lies and slander.
Over and over, we keep hearing about free contraceptives and women’s health rights. By women’s health rights, I glean they mean the freedom to have an abortion. Any woman can afford $9 a month to pay out of their own pocket.
Why are both subjects so important to a political leader? It’s simply to curry young women’s votes, not because he is concerned about women’s rights. Too many women fall for a man’s charisma and false, empty promises, and that’s so sad.
The same for amnesty — again to curry the Hispanic vote. In the meantime, illegal alien felons are not prosecuted and are allowed to re-offend by committing more rapes and murders.
The disgusting, slanderous lies being promoted against his opponent are enough to make one retch. I suppose when you can’t run on your record you have to resort to such low, reprehensible tactics.
I pity those who actually believe everything that’s been promoted by him and his campaign people and who do not believe we are on the road to becoming a socialist state.
If he’s re-elected, you can be sure we will be living in a country totally controlled by the government. God bless America, the land of the free and the brave.
We have to keep her that way.
