Bowling

A big thank you to the Press Republican for finally taking photos of high school bowling matches. I was a bowler for my high school, and during my time we never got much recognition because we weren't a "popular" sport such as basketball. So it is nice to see that you finally have staff attending these bowling matches and taking pictures. Bowlers are athletes too!

Powerball

I saw the notice that New York state has increased the cost of playing Powerball from $1 to $2 per chance. They are trying to gouge a few more dollars from the already overtaxed citizens of this state. Did our legislators approve this or were they just doing photo ops as usual? If you are going after big dollars, try this idea. Raise the cost of playing to $100 per chance, then only the super rich will be playing. It will save money for us in the lower classes and appease the liberals by making the rich pay "their fair share."

EPIC

Funding prescriptions for seniors has, in fact, become an "EPIC" struggle in New York state. Perhaps this budget cut aims to, as Scrooge puts it, "decrease the surplus population." I wonder how many seniors will die this month because they can't pay for their medications.

Taxes

Republican presidents and Senate Republicans over the past 15 years tweaking a tax code to make the top 1 percent even more rich has led to the economic mess we are now in. Who is to blame was summarized up by billionaire Warren Buffet who wrote, "My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress. It's time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice." Tax reforms to stop the tax break for the top 1 percent needs to go back to the regular rate prior to Reagan/Bush/Bush senseless idea of trickle-down economics.

Church

In response to "Church," if a child needs to use the bathroom, then they need to go. Would you rather see/smell the mess if they don't? There could also be developmental reasons for children having to leave the church, not just to use the bathroom. You are probably also the person who complains when young people don't attend church. It is attitudes like this that is turning young people away from church. Most of the priests welcome children of all ages no matter what they do. Have compassion, please!

Benefits

I wasn't sure if others were aware of this, but did you know if you are married and become disabled, you cannot collect the Social Security benefits you've paid if because your spouse makes too much. I didn't know my husband when I started working 30 years ago. Where does that money go? I paid it in, I want it back. I collect disability, but it's nowhere near what SSI would be. Why can't I have it? It's mine. SSI says "that's just the way it works." Really? I've paid for myself, not freeloaders who won't work. I'm disgusted.

Children

While I understand and respect your view on children running up and down aisles and to the restroom, every child of God belongs in church. While it may present a distraction to those who are there without distractions, you choose to let it affect you negatively. Think positively and hope that somewhere in their little child brain they are taking in the love of Jesus Christ and his word.

Liberals

How long is it going to take the American public to understand that the liberals in this country are the cause of most of our economic and financial problems. They send billions of dollars overseas to countries that don't give a damn about us, only our money. Let's take care of us, get rid of the liberal establishment.

Choice

Daycares are outraged. OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services) and CSEA/VOICE has implemented changes effective Jan. 3, 2012. These changes have taken away our freedom of choice and has discriminated against those providers who receive subsidized payments from the Department of Social Services.

Sentences

Clinton County, as much of the rest of this country, needs to "wake up" and start making punishments fit the crime. Baby rapers may serve 1 to 3 years, disgusting considering there is a helpless victim. A dealer (or addict supporting their habit) selling to consenting adults could face 6 to 10 years for a sales charge. Where is the justice?

Truckers

Your editorial on truckers health reports left out one important fact. Added revenue for the state. Nothing more, nothing less. I have less fear of a trucker's heart attack behind the wheel than I do a senior citizen who is unable to see past the dash, and New York already tried that in the '80s. The average car weighs 2,800, not 5,000. Think hybrid econopod death traps while going green. And finally, states shouldn't be held in political feel-good liberal blackmail over highway funds for inane laws, disguised as added taxes.

Military

If the clueless, college-educated progressive liberals who voted for Hope and Change need one more example of how Obama is destroying America: He's downsizing our military, while Iran is ramping theirs up. Anyone under 30, don't cry when they tattoo your number on your arm. Just keep playing your video games, while the grownups run the country. Today's youth are like "Wheel of Fortune" without vowels and no chance of ever buying a clue. Don't blame Wall Street. Blame your selection at the voting booth.
