Stranded
I wonder if the New York State trooper who drove by while I sat in my broken-down car (with the hazard lights on, no less) would've stopped to chat with me had I been on my cell phone. It wasn't such a good feeling to be stranded and watch help drive right on by.
Soccer
Every school has something they are good at and can brag about. In Chazy we can kick a soccer ball, but I guess we don't have any spellers. Unless I missed something I did not see any contestants listed in the Regional Spelling Bee from Chazy Central. Too busy planning soccer banquets?
Kids
What bugs me is that people who are on public assistance and have been forever pick up their kids at school with all name-brand clothes, and their kids dress with hand-me-downs. They all have cell phones and are smoking. What about putting the kids first?
Phones
Get over the fact that people have cell phones already. Did you know that the average cell-phone plan is cheaper than a home phone? Did you ever hear of prepaid cell phones? Stop judging others. Only God can judge. You are not God because God would never have a fit about cell phones! Get a life, stop worrying about others. I hope everyone who works in a doctor's office that complains about others gets fired. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't have a job.
Recognition
Last night at the Plattsburgh District String Orchestra Concert at the High School, programs were distributed. Inside was a list of the music/composers played and all student performers. On the cover were names of 10 district administers and nine Board of Education members. Nowhere was there mention of the one person responsible for the concert. One teacher coordinates more than 150 students for an Orchestra Concert, and her name was left off the program. Furthermore, a little help from our newly appointed principal might have made the night's event a little more manageable for the one teacher coordinating and announcing everything.
Attire
Does it really matter whether or not the day-care provider wears lounge wear or jeans? Seriously, this is petty! Ask yourself, what would you wear if you were taking care of children all day — playing, feeding, interacting? I bet you'd wear something comfortable. So, lounge wear, pajamas, sweats, who cares? Isn't it the children who are more important here? As long as they have the best care possible, that is what is important. Keep that in mind next time you worry about something so petty.
Decision
In regard to the recent decision of the County Legislature to select a regional airline, the following question begs for an answer: Was due diligence performed in making their decision? Merrian-Webster Dictionary definition of due diligence — 1: The care that a reasonable person exercises under circumstances to avoid harm to other persons or their property; 2: Research and analysis of a company or organization done in preparation for a business transaction. After viewing several investigative shows and reading recent FAA reports, I have come to the conclusion that I will never set foot on one of their aircraft.
Respect
Nobody cares more deeply about the quality of life in this city than her workers. Most city workers are also city taxpayers. Who, besides the mayor or the Press-Republican, can't grasp this fact? City workers don't want higher taxes, but they do want to be respected and treated fairly.
System
To the genius who wrote "Jobs" — what is wrong with you? Every day, someone complains about people on welfare (not all), getting over on the system, and here you are complaining about people taking the initiative to do better for themselves. People who actually want to work and provide for their families without getting assistance. Let me guess, you didn't get hired, or you're on the system and have nothing better to do but gripe about those who work. Which is it? I know people who work on the side with a legitimate business and pay taxes. Do you pay taxes?
Pedestrians
Last week, my family and I were almost hit while using a crosswalk. The car came around the corner at an unbearable speed, abruptly halted from where we were standing inside the crosswalk, and laid on the horn. My wife and two kids were startled, as was I, and when I pointed out to the driver that we were in a crosswalk, he had the nerve to roll down his window and yell obscenities at me in front of my family. In this instance, pedestrians have the right of way; drivers do not.
Thief
To the person who took my pedometer from Lake Champlain OBGYN today, March 4: Thank you. Now I have a reason to not continue my weight-loss regime so I may have a child. You are a thief, pure and simple. Finders keepers is not losers weepers; you are a thief. Thank you.
Perfection
This is the most miserable bunch of people that write some of these Speakouts. All I ever see is someone complaining about someone else's business. Mind your own business, fix your own problems, take a look in the mirror. I'm sorry, you are probably perfect in every way right? In fact you are such a gift to mankind that you judge people like it's your job. Congratulations to all the perfect people out there.
COs
My son was just excepted to the Academy to be a correction officer. I'm very proud of him for serving the public this way. This is my only son; I love him more than anything. I don't care what he's paid. I care that he'll be safe every day at work. And if that means I have to pay taxes to make sure that happens I have no problem with it. All you people out there who complain about correction officers, just think about what that person's life means to his or her family. They are at risk every time they step inside those walls.
