Tournament sponsors

TO THE EDITOR: On Sunday, May 27, the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505 held its first-annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Harmony Golf Club.

At this time, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the sponsors: Toby Perkins Excavating, Barber Yard Care, Bob’s Trucking, Ed’s Concrete, McLean’s Restaurant and patrons, Keeseville Pharmacy, Agency Insurance/Keeseville, Adirondack Hardware, Graymont Materials, Phil Pray, Donna’s Hairstyles, Ausable Chasm, Marsha Homes and J&S Steel.

With their generous donations and support, we were able to reach our goal for this year. Again, many thanks to all involved.

Border Patrol

TO THE EDITOR: I am a lifelong Democrat but am ashamed of the unlimited, unchecked power you have given to the Border Patrol in just three short years.

I live in northern New York, and I can’t believe how the Constitution has been abolished here. Citizens are constantly being stopped for no reason (not just checkpoints), subjected to search, detained, in some cases  assaulted. And let us not forget the latest Big Brother: cameras throughout the North Country.

Complaints with the appropriate agencies go uninvestigated.

I studied for a semester in the Soviet Union and never once hit a checkpoint, was asked where I was coming/going, subjected to a warrantless search, detained or assaulted like many good people are being subjected to here.

Just look on YouTube at some of the videos (search Border Patrol). Just look at your gun scandal involving Holder and the Border Patrol. Just look at all their shootings at the border. Just look at the American Civil Liberties Union website and check out the report about Border Patrol in northern New York.

When Obama made “Change” his campaign slogan, I had no idea he meant changing to a police state. Gillebrand, Schumer and Owens all touted their border initiative to help traffic here. All it got us was more agents, more harassment. Tourists would rather visit an area where they know they have rights guaranteed by a constitution.

Will you come after our guns next?  We are probably going to need them to protect ourselves from the KGB (Korrupt Guards at the Border).
