Dogfight legislation
TO THE EDITOR: The Humane Society Legislative Fund expresses its thanks to Congressman Bill Owens for voting in favor of an amendment to crack down on inhumane and appalling practices of dogfighting and cockfighting.
Specifically, the amendment, considered during committee debate over the Farm Bill, makes it a crime for an adult to attend or to bring a child to a staged animal fight.
In addition to humane organizations, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and nearly 200 law-enforcement agencies from across the country support the effort in Congress to quash illegal dogfighting and cockfighting. And with good reason. A three-year study by the Chicago Police Department found that 70 percent of people involved in crimes of animal cruelty had also been arrested for other felonies, including domestic and aggravated battery, illegal drug trafficking and sex crimes.
It’s awful to think of a parent bringing a child to watch animals kill each other, as if it’s just another day at the park. We must be concerned about the values we impress on our children and also be mindful of our responsibilities to all of God’s creatures, including the dogs and birds.
Thanks to Congressman Owens, we now may have a chance to crack down on the spectators who knowingly enable the crime of animal fighting, make the enterprise profitable through admission fees and wagering and help conceal and protect the handlers and organizers

Tragic era
TO THE EDITOR: A tragic era has been made in America in just the last three years.
A small group of socialistic-thinking people from Chicago have planned for at least 50 years to go against the majority of U.S citizens and by well-positioned people who think their thoughts of foreign leftist and with the help of our unforgotten, non-thinking students.
The drape of red has covered America right before our eyes. You have seen what socialism is truly all about. The youth who do not think, the old leftist of Marxism and now a completely wicked America, broke, fraud, lines and a president worse than Carter, all in less than three years.
This disease is like cancer, and it is spreading with your help, and we are heading for another four years of the same. So I am writing on a piece of paper to God, “I did not vote for this,” and I will pin it to my shirt so he knows I did not help to destroy this world.
Now kick this mole out of the White House, and believe we can fight socialism’s bloodline from Chicago, where the ACORNs and Black Panthers alone with liar Emanuel are going to the Marxist blood bank of O’Bummer.
They must have raised enough money by now to buy the country of their choice. I know that sounds stupid, but I’m thinking, not really; as close as those much smarter have figured, they still don’t know where 4 trillion went to.
No, I did not get any profit; in fact, I told you I would let you know how I made out with the V.A. I went to the Supreme Court, and I lost. Don’t lose this one.
