Speakout entries that are more than 100 words long will be rejected. Also, don't type all in capital letters and don't insult a specific person or use hateful language because those will be rejected also.
Please take a minute to proofread and spellcheck your entry before you send it. Look for spelling errors, grammar mistakes and words that should be capitalized but aren't.
It takes time to correct the many errors that arrive in Speakout entries, so it's a big help if you check them over first.
Costly
Local armchair engineers should understand that a Cumberland Head bridge would need to span a distance of 1.6 miles, twice the length of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, one of the longest in the world. Footings to reduce this span would need to be placed in 40- to 60-feet deep water compared to 20 feet of water for the Verazzano Narrows Bridge. The Crown Point Bridge spans only ⅓ mile of lake at a relatively shallow point. While bridges in Montreal are long, they also are on numerous footings built in shallow water. A Cumberland Head bridge would be prohibitively costly.
Fans
In response to the comment by a Moriah fan on the conduct of the Randolph Central School fans at the Class D Championship game at Syracuse, the Randolph fans must have scouted a home game at Moriah for their misconduct; that same behavior has been going on for years. Maybe this will be an eye opener for proper fan conduct. Congratulations to the Moriah football team and its coaches on a great season.
Attitude
To the person who wrote about the DMV: The DMV in my county is the same way. I realize that with rules and regulations you need to have an iron fist, but must the attitude be the same? After waiting in a long line, the last thing a person needs is a bad attitude.
Accountability
Obviously your marriage was not as trustworthy and intact as you thought. It was the choice of your husband to become a secret friend with another woman. Where is his accountability in this? Everyone must be accountable for their own behavior regardless of how you feel about a friendship that grew into something more. It was a choice your husband made. Your husband could have chosen to not let this happen. You can try to make your marriage work all you want, but if your husband is not committed to you, it will never change.
Blame
I am one of those so-called other women. Your husband approached me with all his problems and how terrible his marriage and life was. No one would listen but me. He visited my office daily at work, bringing me gifts and often spoke about his children. He knew exactly what he was doing and how to get it. You see, he has done this before and continues to do even after I called off the relationship. He phones me several times a day without you knowing it. Guess what, it's not always the other woman who is to blame.
Pollution
Way to go, voters on the Head. This sewer-district idea was about what may be leaching into the lake from your "private" septics, only to pay for water loaded with fluoride and chlorine to be discharged into the lake from your "public option," the Water Treatment Plant. The real cause of blue-green, phosphorus-based algae. Anyone with a neglected swimming pool can tell you that.
Pledge
To the person who suggested the parents move their kids to Iran, I find your statement to be absolutely ridiculous. Just because a child or teenager doesn't want to say the Pledge, doesn't make them a terrorist or unpatriotic. It's a person's choice to say, or not say, what they believe and feel.
Thank you
To the person who wrote "Thankful" on Dec. 10. I think you are absolutely correct. Too many people forget what is so important and let the small stuff get to them. Your submission actually made me tear up a little. Thank you for such a enlightening comment; I just hope others can see it too.
Savings
Why is the State Correction System not looked at when cutting the budget. Getting paid 15 minutes of mandatory overtime for doing nothing every day should be cut. Getting $2,000 for clothing a year per person should be cut, and the $10,000 check every guard in the state just received should have never happened at this time. Millions would be saved.
