Speakout: Dec. 15, 2009

SPEAKOUT DELAYS

Speakout entries that are more than 100 words long will be rejected. Also, don't type all in capital letters and don't insult a specific person or use hateful language because those will be rejected also.

Please take a minute to proofread and spellcheck your entry before you send it. Look for spelling errors, grammar mistakes and words that should be capitalized but aren't.

It takes time to correct the many errors that arrive in Speakout entries, so it's a big help if you check them over first.

Bass
While hunting for pheasants this week, I shot two male birds (the limit). I then quickly brought them back to my car to be weighed. After getting a weight total of my two birds, I brought them back out and placed them in the middle of the field, in tall grass, with the sun shining, a spot that was convenient for me. They should be fine; they were still breathing when I weighed them. After my "shoot and release" adventure, I decided to spend money at a local restaurant and motel. Woke up the next morning, filled my tank with gas, then returned home. Sound like the bass tournaments?

Windmills
When are the people in the Town of Beekmantown going to wake up and stop letting the rich people on Rand Hill dictate what the town decides to do with the windmills. The economy is in the toilet, the oil companies have our politicians in their pocket, everyone has a moral obligation to try to make it better. I live in the NACS school district, and the wind companies have offset a lot of the school and land taxes. Our school tax rate is about $11 per thousand; what's yours? Wake up!

Coverage
Cheers to WIRY for their coverage of our local boys soccer team (Chazy) and our local football team (Moriah) broadcast of their championship run. Oops, WIRY did not cover either game. Shame on them instead. Can you believe it, the station covered the Giant losers football team and some pathetic old-time music. I guess unless it isn't Cardinal hockey, which will do their perennial choke, it doesn't matter.

Unions
The forth branch of government here in New York is the unions. They have too much power and have bankrupted this state. The New York State Teacher Retirement, Civil Service and 1199. That's why there are no jobs left here. Almost everyone is on the dole at the expense of the property owners, private business and private-sector taxpayers. Why won't the press print this? Because Speakout can't handle the truth. Gutless cowards!

Hoffman
Doug Hoffman recently stated, "I plan to stay active in politics and in the weeks and months ahead and hope to be able to personally thank all those who made this race so close and exciting." Well, he better not forget Mark Barie as he travelled the North Country hill and dale sticking Hoffman signs anywhere he could find a soft spot, to include bogs, swamps and marshes. Not to mention the calories he burned yet again traveling to pull them back out. Great job, Hoffman helper, you deserve a prop!

Cat
Please families, if you can't take care of your pet, please try to find a home with people who can. I have seen a cat injured at a local home and nothing done for about a month now. She is still limping and having a hard time getting around. If your pet is in agony, please help it; that's your job and duty as a pet owner.

Summons
Next time I break a minor traffic rule, the State Police or any other authority, will have to make an appointment in order to issue me a summons. If I choose not to be available for that appointment, then too bad. After all, if Tiger can get away with it, why can't the rest of us? Sorry, copper, I'm unavailable!

Speakout
Cheers to Speakout! Why are some people so down on Speakout? Everyone's entitled to speak their mind about how they feel: right, wrong, or indifferent. Maybe some people are too ignorant to realize that "their" way of thinking is not the only way. I don't agree with a lot of the petty griping that people write in about, so I just read on — lighten up people! By the way I played high school soccer for three years and I sat the bench for most of that time and I stand up for the pledge of allegiance. God Bless America!

Apples
Well, to all the people complaining about all the apples and carrots on the side of the road for sale, tis the season. Don't you know that Santa's reindeer need to eat. If you are so worried about them being fed to the deer for bait, then help the economy and buy them all. They make great salads and pies or donate them to your local food shelf, then you won't have to worry about them being fed to the deer.

Holiday
I'm disappointed about comments related to the Holiday Train. To people who are upset with the use of the word "Holiday" over "Christmas," guess what? It's not just your holiday! In fact, it's not really yours at all. It's a pagan ritual for the winter solstice. Read a book.

Dinner
My sister and I were happy to read that someone else enjoyed the harvest dinner in Chazy. We had a wonderful time and meal. I am amazed at how friendly the workers, greeters and student helpers are. I know not every dinner is perfect, but when cooking for so many people, things can happen. It is important to remember that the cooks and workers are volunteers and not professionals and that they are donating their time for their church. Thank you to all who serve the Lord in this way.
