Thanks for help
TO THE EDITOR: Each year, American Legion Auxiliary volunteers distribute red crepe paper poppies in exchange for donations to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans. A well-recognized symbol of sacrifice, the poppy is worn to honor men and women who have served and died for their country.
American Legion Auxiliary Post 912 would like to express our thanks to the village of Rouses Point, as well as Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Cornerstone Pharmacy, Dollar General and Good Friends Restaurant for once again this year allowing our members to distribute poppies at their locations.

Appreciates votes
TO THE EDITOR: I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thank you to the voters in the Town of Black Brook for re-electing me as town justice.
I have been fortunate to serve the town for the past 32 years in the offices of assessor and councilman and most recently since 1992 as your town justice. Your support now and in the past will always hold a special place in my life. Thank you again for your confidence and support.

We need to help
TO THE EDITOR: War is so terrible that a strong case always can and always should be made against it. However, once we have invaded a country and overthrown its government, we owe it to the people of that country to allow them to make a better government and build a better life. This is not only a moral imperative, it is the prudent thing to do.
If we had abandoned the German people after World War II, leaving them to their bombed-out cities and towns, they would have hated us, and most likely all of Germany and perhaps other parts of western Europe would have fallen under Soviet domination. Instead, we befriended them and helped them rebuild and ended up with the best kind of friend: one who will tell us when they think we are wrong.
There are those who say we should abandon the Afghan people. They say that al-Qaida is the enemy, not the Taliban. They either don't know or pretend they don't know who the Taliban is. The Taliban terrorized the Afghan people when they were in power. They beat women for showing their eyes in public, and publicly executed them for being accused of adultery. They willingly provided a base of operations for al-Qaida before 911, and fought along side them afterwards. They murder homosexuals by slowing crushing them, and they bomb secular schools.
The Taliban throws acid in the faces of little girls who are trying to learn to read. I, for one, think we should give those little girls a chance.

Baucus bill
TO THE EDITOR: Memo to Mr. Wayne Schaub: The bill I was referring to in my previous letter to the editor was and is the Baucus bill that had to be voted on in the House of Representatives by Friday, Oct. 16 or Monday, Oct. 19 and debate was scheduled by Sen. Reid for the U.S. Senate the week of Oct. 26-30.
As it currently stands, it does not have the death panels in it or a public option, although a provision is made for that "public option" to be added at the last minute between U.S. House passage and message to Senate. Thus the "killer amendment" of the public option will be in the final version to be voted on by the Senate and unless some senator objects to its inclusion, who is a member of the majority, then the version that arrives at the president's desk will have a public option.
Now I do not object to a public option per se. I just do not want my premiums tripled overnight, which is going to happen on all private insurance plans, so states the American Insurance Group, a holding company that oversees 90 percent of all insurance medical plans sold in the USA.
So people, here is your only choice: Get a public option and triple your premium expense, or insist on its removal from Obamacare and pay $2,500 per year fine for non-insurance or at least $4,000 per year for insurance you may not use.

Sample scam
TO THE EDITOR: Internet users: Be advised of a new recent scam I just found out about. Here's what they do: They get you to order a "sample" of a product (and they are offering several different ones, e.g., Dazzle Smile tooth whitener, also others like a sample of vitamins, hair growth, hormone cosmetics, etc.) They get your credit care number and send you a product. Then they charge you on the credit card for a six-month supply ($87 for my Dazzle White, in my case) and call the sample your first trial order. The only way to get the $87 off the credit card and refunded is to mail back the "sample" and hope they remove the charge from the credit card. (They recommend you mail it with proof of date mailed at the post office, another additional cost to the victim.)
Please beware of this.
