Girls Night Out
TO THE EDITOR: On behalf of the Girls Night Out Committee and the Foundation of CVPH Medical Center, I would like to say thank you to the 1,400 women of the North Country for joining us on Oct. 13 for the 11th Annual Girls Night Out.
At the 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. shows Giltz Auditorium was packed full of women ready to enjoy an evening of fun. Special thanks to the talent of the evening including Susannah Levon of Plattsburgh State University, the ever-popular Boobie Sisters and our keynote speaker Karyn Ruth White.
Of course, the evening would not be possible without the support of our underwriters: Adirondack Plastic Surgery Center, Valcour Imaging, Excellus, Lake Champlain OB/GYN and Mountain Lake PBS. The Foundation would also like to express appreciation to General Trading Company, Champlain Centre and SUNY Plattsburgh Angell College Center for selling tickets to the show. Special thanks to our volunteers Charlotte Stemper and Gail Calongne, to our host Stephanie Gorin and SUNY Plattsburgh's Taylor Sullivan and the theatre department led by Barry Brown for their continuous support of this event. Job well done by all involved.

Cruel dropoff of kittens
TO THE EDITOR: Well, you did it again. You dropped off another kitten.
I suppose you told your child that you gave it a good home or took it to the animal shelter. What a liar you are. I hope your child finds out how cruel you are.
Yes, I'll describe her to you. She's about three months old, yellow and white and adorable. My sister took it home where it would be loved.
So, you decide to take it up on Shingle Street, in between Morrisonville and Turner Road. Tell me, how will a kitten find its way to a house? All you can think of is its life will end soon because of foxes, coy dogs, freezing, starving or being hit by a car. Did you really think it had a chance of survival? I went for a walk and I heard a meow. She came running up to me. How cruel you are. I hope you rot in hell.
Oh, yeah, I saved the black kitten you dropped off last year in November. We need stricter laws on animal cruelty. Get your pets spayed or neutered and if you can't, find help or don't have any.

Raises unwarranted
TO THE EDITOR: This letter is in reference to the 9 percent raise in the new budget being given to the Champlain code officer. It doesn't seem right to have to pay the code officer $50 every time he attends a planning or zoning board meeting when he has to be there anyway. If this is not part of his job description, it should be.
Since he is the only one that can be given the planning and zoning information for the meetings, and he is seldom in his office to answer the phone, this can be very frustrating for anyone who is on is a time schedule. They took away some of the extras he had and gave him a raise that amounted to the same thing. Go figure.
The highway superintendant is to receive a 5 percent raise. Why? Calls have been made more than once about the plows tearing up the roads and we get put on the back burner, also the mud and manure that has been packed on the road so thick we had to wash our truck twice to get the guck off, and my car smelled so bad I couldn't put it in the garage.

Race card perceived
TO THE EDITOR: In response to Peter J. Moore's letter to the editor, Oct. 25, I do not know what card you are playing in your recent letter, but it would not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. When you open your mouth, it leaves no doubt.
Mr. Moore, your rambling non-sequitur to explain blacks and the race card would be a joke if presented for serious discussion. Are the only African-Americans worth mentioning rap singers, the reverends Sharpton and Jackson and Rodney King? And what, pray tell, does Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben's rice and Popeye's chicken have to do with President Barack Obama?
By the way Mr. Moore, should I presume that you are African-American, since you seem to know what we want? One other question, Mr. Moore, are you suggesting that in order to commit such a heinous act as the one committed in Columbine, one must get to school by 8 a.m.? And if J.W. Wiley gives you heartburn, take two Rush Limbaugh tablets at noon and one Glen Beck tablet at night. I am sure they would make you feel better.

Extinction awaits
TO THE EDITOR: I am very sad that global change is causing extinction. The Intergovernmental Panel for climate change claims that by 2050 there will be 20 to 30 percent of the world's plants and animals extinct. Extinct means forever. We do not get a second chance. It is up to us now.
Let's do the right thing and protect. Otherwise at the end of the day, if we do nothing it might be too late to protect even ourselves. God bless us all.

True Republicans
TO THE EDITOR: I attended the Republican county meeting this spring. I am not so naive that I am not aware of backroom politics — but dirty backroom politics — what a shocker and certainly a disillusionment. One individual in particular arrived sporting a fistful of proxies — as an old timer remarked: "I smell a set-up." Is this because one official asked some questions and made a few suggestions?
The reaction has damaged our county organization, and I am deeply saddened to learn those officials that I thought could "walk on water" were a part of this movement.
With all the pettiness and lack of unity for the first time in history, Essex gave support to Obama, Murphy, and Gillibrand. What they should have given full support to was Sandy Treadwell and James Dawson.
To top it all off, I just learned that it has infiltrated our most prestigious award — The Mary Prime Award.
Three years, ago I was honored to be the recipient of this award. I knew Mary Prime and all her accomplishments for the good of the community, so to be ranked with Mary was one of my life highlights.
I personally recommended this year's recipient because of all her community endeavors. She chaired the capital campaign for the Elizabethtown Community Hospital for fundraising and surpassed the goal that was set. With the threat of losing our veterans clinic in Elizabethtown, she has been a strong voice in support of the continuing of health service for our veterans in Elizabethtown. She has been a devoted Republican and stands tall for what the party was created for.
At a recent executive meeting politics entered into the Mary Prime Award. Claiming she did not uphold and support the Republican Committee's present ideals. To use this award for their own purposes is despicable. They have lowered the esteem of this award.
With a split in the party — who are the true Republican supporters?
