Enjoyable evening
TO THE EDITOR: On Sept. 12, Jane and Peck Sample held a '70s Revival show and dinner at the Rainbow Wedding and Banquet Hall in Altona with proceeds going to support programs at the North Country Regional Traumatic Brain Injury Center. We would like to thank the Peck family and their staff for a wonderfully enjoyable evening and a tremendously successful fundraiser. We would also like to thank Dragoon's Farm Equipment and Sample Lumber from Mooers as well as WKOL Kool 105 FM Hall Radio for sponsoring the event.

The Traumatic Brain Injury Center, a non-profit agency serving the community, is located on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. We help individuals with brain injury and their families return to independent living after an physical accident, stroke or disease affecting the brain.

Fluoride warning
TO THE EDITOR: I found this interesting. I was reading in the book "Health and Healing Library" and I came across this article.

"Fluoride warning if you have thyroid disease: Fluoride is highly toxic to the thyroid. Don't use fluoridated toothpaste if you have thyroid problems. If your water supply is fluoridated, don't drink it. Drink bottle water instead."

Richard L. Shames, M.D., a thyroid specialist with a private practice in San Rafael, Calif., is the author of "Thyroid Power: Ten Steps to Total Health," by Harper Resource. His Web site is www.thyroidpower.com .

Sacrifices for liberty
TO THE EDITOR: After all is written via your two public-opinion vehicles, Speakout and Letters to the Editor, many parents, wives, lovers and kids must look upon them in dismay, while they are dealing with our youngsters being in harm's way over in Iraq and Afghanistan. These two vehicles of opinion are truly minimal in comparison to our military endeavors.

Let us try to approach this Veteran's Day with remembrances to all of our surviving veterans, as well as those who have fallen. These sacrifices have provided us with many liberties, one of which is free speech.
