Insurance
"O'Bama care" is quite simple, those of us who work and pay for insurance will pay more and have our benefits cut so that he can use the money to pay for others who are uninsured now.
Senior citizens beware, you are about to lose the "advantage program" that helps you now, it is one of the cuts.
It is all part of his "socialist agenda."
Quality
Congratulations to the Beekmantown football team on another successful season thus far. The new field is beautiful, and the athletes, staff and community are proud to host games on it. Both the girls' and boys' soccer teams are also having great seasons, yet the same cannot be said for the worn-out field they play on at the Town Hall. It'll be interesting to see if the current administration at BCS will be fair and equitable about providing the other sports programs with on-campus facilities of comparable quality. Shouldn't all of the teams feel good about playing games at home?
Notice
Someone I knew died on Oct. 11th. On Oct., 14th, you put in the newspaper that the arrangements were for that night and the next day. Does it dawn on anyone there that some of us need to get a ride to this, time off from work, budget money toward it, etc.? Not this, "Hey, by the way, it's today," kind of notice. Thanks a lot for the advance notification so I could make arrangements to be there. I'd better die after all my friends and relatives have retired so they can drop everything and go.
Shots
How is it that Vermont can hold several free flu shot clinics, and the Clinton County Health Department can't even get enough for their clinics where they charge a huge fee? If Vermont can do it for free, what is wrong with this area? Not too many of us have the income per capita they have in Chittenden County.
Fields
I would like to talk about the Beekmantown Eagles sports teams. It's great that the football team has a nice new field to play on. I also think it is very disappointing that the soccer and baseball teams have to play on such horrible fields. The town soccer fields are in such horrible shape. They are one of the worst fields in CVAC to play on. The school seems to be more interested in one sport: football. There are other teams that are having great seasons also. Hopefully, the school will do the right thing.
Complain
I am sorry we (the poor, poor firefighters) couldn't get to your neighbor's field that was burning out of control; we don't have a brush truck. We are also very sorry we didn't get to your house, as our people complained so we weren't aware there was a fire because we can't have a siren anymore. Then when we did find out, our truck wouldn't start because it wasn't the kind we needed for the North Country because again someone complained. Think before you complain , it could happen to you.
God
I work in a place that don't allow me to bring God to work, or even talk about God, but it's OK to bring a conversation of drinking, sex and vulgarity to work? Why is it OK to talk about these things in the workplace, but the first second you hear about Jesus, you're told "work isn't the place to talk about it" ... sorry to let these people down when they tell me not to bring him to work with me, he is always with me, always in my heart.
Firefighters
I am floored to read such lack of respect for firefighters. These men and women voluntarily put their lives on the line for the general public. At the sound of a whistle, they leave their jobs, families and friends to help someone in need. Shame on you. I can only pray the whistle works and the $300,000 truck moves when you or your family are in need. Thank you firefighters and first responders for all you do in our community. You are appreciated by most.
Competition
I find it sad that people don't understand competitive sports. Varsity is competitive level and, much like life, not fair. Do you really want a bunch of sniveling sissy's on the field? I don't! My son has attended the off-season training and every practice since but is second string and you won't hear me complain. He will learn that life is not fair, and if you want something bad enough, you have to work your tush off and even then you may still not be rewarded what you want. Welcome to real life boys and girls!
Gas
Gas stations are breaking records in raising the price at the pump. On 10-16-09 the price of oil on the market rose over $5 a barrel. Before the market even closed, the local gas station raised the price from $2.69 to $2.75. Thanks from all your loyal customers.
Marxism
The current White House director of communications and Obama appointee addressed high-school students and told them that one of the people she most admired was Mao tse Tung, the Communist dictator whose own brand of Marxism — redistributing the wealth — became Maoism in China. His policies and political purges supposedly killed tens of millions of people, actually many times more than Hitler. (The video clip of her speech was on FOX so it would be hard for the Administration to deny.) She found Mao inspiring. Nice. More connections to Marxism and redistributing the wealth. How about that?
Racism
Rush Limbaugh just got stopped from being a part owner of a NFL team because some people said he is a "Racist"( no verbal proof whatsoever on tape). A couple of people that were cheering that they helped, calling him a racist were Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Yes, these two "unifying" souls were calling someone a racist, can you believe it? (That's like Rosie O'Donnell telling someone to lose weight.) These two guys are one big racial joke.
Peers
Watching the news, I saw a report about a teen that was severely burned by school peers. Heartbreaking! It brings to mind what our children are subjected to in our own local schools. I know a child with a history of sexual issues. He has made advances toward little girls, and he still attends our public school. Why? Because it didn't occur at school. What a joke. Let's wait until the predators harm our children beyond repair before something is done about it. In school or out of school, a danger is a danger. Better safe than sorry!
Recycle
I would like to thank Casella Waste for placing a recycling dumpster in the parking lot at the former North End Repair location on Route 3. This will make it more convenient for residents who do not wish to drive to the landfill or a convenience station yet still want to recycle.

Editorial: The real reason for the holiday
Today is for creating new memories. Tomorrow, we should pause to remember. Memorial Day weekend, being the first big holiday of the sun season, is all about barbecues, picnics and outdoor activities; it is all about family and friends. After a North Country winter, even a fairly mild one like we just had, we need to relax in the sun and enjoy the outdoors.

In My Opinion: Cultural issues need attention
Amid the various issues debated as we approach the next elections, two are important to all individuals here, as in the rest of the country: debates over birth control and over interest owed on student loans, writes Plattsburgh State professor Mark Cohen.
