Harassment complaints
TO THE EDITOR: This letter is in reference to the subject of the police not properly handling and responding to harassment complaints that people call in to their stations.
People call in harassment complaints for a reason, because someone is being harassed. If somebody isn't being harassed they wouldn't be calling in to the police station, tying up the line!
I think maybe the false-reporters and false-filers have ruined it for others, perhaps us honest, truthful and innocent people who report real incidents of harassment and serious occurrences to the police.
There's no excuse for police stations to conduct themselves in such a manner. The police slogan on their cars states "To Serve and Protect" and that is all that I ask, is to be served and protected and justice to be won against my harassers and be treated with respect and integrity.
These people who are willing to continuously harass others seem to know they can get away with what they're doing and these kind of people will thrive on and use this fact to their advantage and keep harassing their victims or move onto another victim because they know they're getting scott-free away with it and nothing will be done about them. This is sick and uncalled for in this county!
This county needs to wake up and come out of their denial about who is and who isn't being harassed and realize what they are doing to the victim. Instead of being in denial about harassment and giving free passes to the harassers, care about the victim and do what the law says to do, enforce the law against harassment, not allow it.
I'm sure if you were being harassed, you would want justice too. Respect goes a long way.

Behind on health care
TO THE EDITOR: Before I became an American citizen, I lived under three governments in Europe. It was in Germany, to be correct. I lived under Nazism, Communism and West Germany.
All of these governments provided cradle-to-grave health insurance. Granted, the payroll deductions were higher, granted an elective surgery might have to wait. Granted your medical history was handed over to the hospital staff and we were treated by them. One might not have a private room and might have to share a bathroom but there was never a worry about receiving the proper health care. Even abortion was a non-issue.
When I arrived here, over 30 years ago, I was shocked that the richest country in the world is not providing the same for its citizens. It is time that we guarantee health care to all of our citizens.

Perfect event
TO THE EDITOR: On Oct. 11, the residents at the CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility were treated to a limousine ride followed by a formal prom.
As the CVPH SkiIled Nursing Facility director of nursing, I was reminded what wonderful people I work with every day. The staff went above and beyond (as usual) to make this day happen for the residents. Many staff members came in voluntarily and spent three to four hours of their day off making sure that everything was perfect.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see people from the community helping our residents. Clinton Community nursing students volunteered their time and made everything run smoothly. I would also like to thank Corrections Officer Richard Bushey who helped transfer several residents on the limousine. He did not know any of them but happened to be at the hospital and graciously offered to help. The limousine driver was patient and extremely kind to our residents.
Of course, this day would never had happened if it were not for the amazing activity staff that spent weeks planning this event.
I am so proud to be a part of the CVPH team and feel extremely lucky to work beside these people every day. On behalf of our resident and families — thank you.

Editorial: The real reason for the holiday
Today is for creating new memories. Tomorrow, we should pause to remember. Memorial Day weekend, being the first big holiday of the sun season, is all about barbecues, picnics and outdoor activities; it is all about family and friends. After a North Country winter, even a fairly mild one like we just had, we need to relax in the sun and enjoy the outdoors.

In My Opinion: Cultural issues need attention
Amid the various issues debated as we approach the next elections, two are important to all individuals here, as in the rest of the country: debates over birth control and over interest owed on student loans, writes Plattsburgh State professor Mark Cohen.
