Speakout: Oct. 30, 2009

Casino

To the person that had an opinion about an ARC participant up at the casino in Altona. When a person becomes of age and they want to go to the casino, who is anyone to say that they can't? Just because a person has a disability doesn't mean that they cannot have fun doing what they want to do. When I get 60 or 70, I am going to do what I want when I want. It is the person who makes the decision, and just because they are not smiling does not mean they are not having fun.

Trails

I found it very ironic to read that Adirondack Mountain Club will be having a big trail day on Oct. 17. Don't they realize it is the first day of deer season and time for them to educate the hikers that hunters will be in the woods and they have a right to be on the trails? Remember our fees spiked to help pay for the rescues of the hikers when they need it, while the other outdoor enthusiasts don't pay at all.

Thanks

With this week being Fire Prevention Week, I just want to take this opportunity to thank our local Fire and Rescue and Auxiliary volunteers in Rouses Point and all other fire departments in the surrounding area. Your hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed. As the saying goes: "There's nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer."
